‘The Muppet Movie’ Finally Coming to Blu-ray this August

The Muppet Movie

I was about negative six years old when The Muppet Movie came out, but it’s always been my favorite movie. Even now I go back and forth between this and Jurassic Park when it comes to my Ultimate Favorite Movie Ever™, but I’m sure after the Blu-ray is released on August 13th and I rewatch it a million times, it’ll come out on top.

Kermit, does this film have socially redeeming value?

I sincerely hope Disney shoves this movie down the throats of all the young kids who may not have caught it on VHS or DVD. It’s a classic buddy movie, road movie, and well…Muppet Movie, and the humor, music, and heart still hold up after all these years. Featuring a steller soundtrack (referenced in this hilarious Onion article), a bunch of cameos, and some great one-liners, I kind of want to stop this sentence and just go watch it.

Go preorder it on Amazon!

Wookiee Tuxedo Episode 1 – Crazy Ewok Lady

Posted 7 years ago by Podcast

Happy Star Wars Day! There haven’t been a lot of podcasts around here for a while, but that’s going to change! Not only will Bubble Pipe Theater and Saturday Morning Central be starting back up soon, we’re also starting a brand new podcast dedicated to Star Wars called Wookiee Tuxedo. With Disney buying Lucasfilm and new movies in the works, there won’t be a shortage of things to talk about any time soon.

In the first episode, Tim and I talk about the future of Star Wars, Ewoks, Muppets, and why Wookiees don’t wear pants.

Missing Links: Beer, TMNT, Spider-Man, Muppets

The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

Duff Pint Glass
How do I not have any geeky beer glasses? I need to fix that, and I think a Duff Beer glass would be a perfect start. Then I can move on to TMNT beer glasses.

Booyakasha indeed!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Chia Pet! | Dinosaur Dracula!

Chris Cooper to Play Norman Osborne in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ Will He Suit Up as the Green Goblin? | /Film
Awesome casting. I'd been trying to think of someone cool to play Osborne in TASM 2 but I would never have picked someone as high-caliber as Chris Cooper. I agree with /Film that we probably won't see him in costume, but regardless he'll be a very intense Norman Osborne.

The Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang: Lego TMNT Stop Motion Shorts
These are so cool. I'm a sucker for anything TMNT, LEGO, or stop motion, so these are right up my alley.

So I Guess VHS Nostalgia is a Thing Now

VHS Nostalgia

I was wandering through my local Goodwill yesterday and after finding a sweet toy from my childhood I ventured into the VHS section. Now it’s important to note that I don’t have a CRT TV or a VCR and haven’t for like six years. But, I’ve been wanting to get a little TV/VCR combo to put in my office so I can play old-school video games and watch random VHS tapes, so me getting all nostalgic isn’t totally unwarranted.

Anyway, I’m standing at this wall of VHS tapes reading the ends of the boxes upside down and trying to spot anything good, and I realize that I’m going to bring home a stack of VHS tapes that I’ll only be able to look at. I started to put them back, but my moment of sanity was sadly temporary.

Muppet Stuff: An All Muppet, Fraggle Rock, and Sesame Street Store [I Can Haz Time Machine?]

Muppet Stuff

Well, I finally found my answer for when someone asks what I would do if I had a time machine. I would go back in time somewhere between 1980 and 1993 and go to 833 Lexington Avenue, New York City, New York. There was a freaking official Muppet store you guys! How did I never know about this? The store was called Muppet Stuff, and it sold Muppet, Fraggle Rock, and Sesame Street merchandise.

I saw this little bit of Muppet nostalgia in the documentary Henson’s Place: The Man Behind the Muppets, which is pretty cool. It’s from the 80s, but it’s recently been released on DVD.

From the Muppet Wiki entry:

Decorated to be fun and welcoming with a giant character-laden clock, Muppet Stuff featured all types of Muppet toys, dolls, apparel, books, videos, and memorabilia. For the opening, set for late October 1980, the boutique was heralded as “Muppet Stuff – A shop with nothing but!” Visitors to the store were plunged into a world that included Muppets and Muppet Babies, Sesame Street, and Fraggle Rock.

As much of a huge Muppet geek as I am, I don’t have a lot of vintage Muppet merchandise. Since most of it came out before I was born or when I was little, I just haven’t seen it around much. I have the board game and that’s about the oldest bit of Muppet Stuff I have. Seeing this little store in the documentary (and all the awesome swag inside) made me want to go blow tons of cash on ebay, though.
