Indianapolis Finally Gets a Comic-Con: What Can We Expect?

I have long disparaged my hometown for its lack of a comic book convention. Indianapolis is a great Midwestern city with lots of advantages but it doesn’t offer one of the increasingly popular comics festival. Indy is 12th largest city in the country. It’s also one of the leading convention destinations for various industries and ... Read More

The Simpsons

Universal Studios Opening a Simpsons Land This Summer

I don’t know how I hadn’t heard about this sooner, but I squealed like a little girl when I read this news. Later this summer the wife and I will be heading down to Orlando for a much overdue vacation to celebrate our anniversary, and we were already planning on hitting up Universal Studios in between our beer-from-every-country-days at Epcot. I was pumped about seeing the Harry Potter park, but I had no clue there was going to be more Simpsons stuff too.

I’m a crazy-huge Simpsons fan, and just getting to walk around a section of Universal modeled after Springfield would be amazing, let alone getting to actually try Duff Beer, Krusty Burgers, and Lard Lad donuts. From the official press release:

For the first time ever – anywhere – fans will be able to walk down Fast Food Boulevard and visit the places that helped Springfield stake its claim as “Shelbyville by the Sea.” They will be able to grab a Krusty-certified meat sandwich at Krusty Burger, snatch the catch of the day at the Frying Dutchman, get a slice at Luigi’s Pizza, go nuts for donuts at Lard Lad, enjoy a “Taco Fresho” with Bumblebee Man and imbibe at Moe’s Tavern.

They had me at Krusty-certified meat sandwich.

There is no solid opening date, but the site Orlando Informer expects the restaurants to be open by June 20th and the waterfront attractions (the Kang & Kodos ride and Duff Gardens) to not open until September. All I know is that if there’s not some awesome Simpsons stuff open by late July, I’ll be a sad panda.

I wonder if they’ll sell Bort license plates?

LEGO X-Wing

Let’s Talk About This Crazy Life-Sized LEGO X-Wing

I was going to just add this to the next Missing Links post, but I think it’s awesome enough to warrant it’s own. How crazy is this life-sized X-Wing model that LEGO unveiled today in Time’s Square?

The thing uses 5,335,200 LEGO bricks, which I’m sure would cost a pretty penny on Bricklink or eBay. LEGO is showing the model off today to promote The Yoda Chronicles, a new animated LEGO Star Wars show that premieres next Wednesday. In other news, there’s a LEGO Yoda show coming soon? Nobody tells me nothin.

Head over to Gizmodo to see a ton of awesome images, videos, and more details about this crazy LEGO model. What would you like to see LEGO make life-sized next? Personally I’d like to walk through a life-sized Millenium Falcon. Hey Internet, get on it!

Update: THS friend and blogger Amy Kraft got to check it out first hand, go read about it on Geek Mom!

Nostalgia Pack

Introducing Boxsome and Nostalgia Packs!

If you follow @TopHatSasquatch on Instagram, you’ve probably seen a lot of photos of vintage trading card wax packs and stickers lately. Other than me being a big geek, the reason for those is because I’ve been planning a new business, and I just launched the site yesterday.

It’s called Boxsome, and it’s all about geeky boxes and bundles of stuff, with no subscription required. The ultimate goal is to offer these big boxes of geeky products that are customizable by you but still have some random goodies. I’ve sourced a lot of really cool products, but until I build up to opening up wholesale accounts with them, I’m selling something smaller but equally awesome.

Nostalgia Packs contain two unopened wax packs of your choice, plus a ton of bonus stuff. A typical pack contains the two wax packs, a handful of random loose trading cards, a few POGs, random stickers, and exclusive stuff like these amazing Pizza Point stickers designed by Cody of Crooked Ninja.

Pizza Points

I’ve got a ton of ideas and plans for the site but I’m starting small. I want it to be fun, and I encourage any feedback!

The site is still in beta form and there are a lot of new wax pack options coming soon, but feel free to browse around and let me know if you find any bugs! Also, use the coupon code BXSM20 at checkout to get 20% off!

TMNT Arcade

[Contest] Win an Awesome Mini TMNT Arcade Replica

If you follow me on Instagram (and really, why wouldn’t you?), you’ve probably seen me post shots of action figures hanging around a model Asteroids arcade cabinet. Years ago I posted about those G.I. Joe-scale arcades and I ordered one myself from EMDKay.net.

Well, I was having so much fun with my Asteroids cabinet that I wanted to get more of these awesome model arcade cabs, and I knew I had to have the TMNT model. I also figured that you all would be stoked to get a chance to win one yourselves, so when I placed my order I asked about hosting a giveaway, and they were for it.

If you haven’t seen these, they’re incredibly detailed models of actual arcade games from the 80s and 90s. They are to G.I. Joe scale, but they work really well with lots of different action figures, including Ninja Turtles. EMDKay has a crazy-huge selection and eventually I want them all, but for now I’m just glad to finally be able to take meta photos of the Turtles playing their own game.
