D23 Expo News Roundup: Avengers, New Pixar Films, Muppets, and More

Posted 9 years ago by Movies

Disney just held the second ‘D23 Expo’ this past weekend in Anaheim, their membership-based fan event, and released a ton of info on upcoming movies. We weren’t able to make it (mark my words, next year) but a lot of blogs have been doing a great job of summing up the news. To make it easy to find out what was announced, we’ve compiled all the biggest stories into this roundup. I’m sure we missed something, but everything here is pretty awesome. It definitely sounds like Disney is doing a good job with these conventions.

It’s Time to Meet the Muppets (Trailer)

Posted 9 years ago by Movies

There’s a lot of movies for geeks to be excited about in 2011. Lots of superheroes are getting their first movies, the Harry Potter saga is coming to an end, and The Muppets are finally getting a new movie that looks like it’s at least trying to pay homage to the classic Muppets.

I haven’t posted any of the short viralish teasers that Disney’s released, partly because I’m trying to not repost things from other blogs as much, but mainly because I was waiting for the first full trailer.

I think it was worth the wait. The voices may not be the same, but it has that Muppet spirit. In case you’re still not convinced, here are some reasons why you should be excited:

  • Written by Jason Segal and Nicholas Stoller
  • Directed by James Bobin, co-creator of Flight of the Conchords
  • Zach Galifianakis as a hobo
  • All the other cameos
  • Original songs by Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords

What do you think? Are you going to line up with me to see it at midnight?

Scale Model Muppet Stages

Posted 9 years ago by Art

We’re big Muppets fans around THS. We also love action figures. So imagine our amazement when we saw Lance Cardinal’s custom-built Muppets’ playsets, scaled for the defunct Palisades action figures.

Cardinal made a mainstage, sized to fit the existing Palisades figures and playsets, as well as the backstage set, with the dressing rooms upstairs. He even made it so the two stages fit together to form one complete set.

This thing is a work of art. I’d try to describe it, but my words would not do the set justice. After you’re done checking out these sample items, head over to Cardinal’s website for the complete collection (Mainstage and Backstage).

Amazing Muppets Cupcakes

Posted 9 years ago by Food

Cupcakes are one of life’s most perfect substances. No one can pass up a delicious cupcake topped with a glob of sweet icing. On the other hand, I would have to give pause before sinking my teeth into these Muppet-themed creations by Cupcake Occasions. The UK-based baker served up cakes topped with everyone’s favorite Muppet characters.

These are such a work of art I don’t think I could bring myself to destroy it by biting into it. Unless perhaps the Miss Piggy ones taste like bacon.

A Muppet Family Christmas
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5

Everyone here at Top Hat Sasquatch hopes you have a wonderful December 25th no matter what your traditions are. This has been a great holiday and a huge year for the site, but I’m looking forward to some very big things in 2011. So, spend some quality time with your family, eat some great food, play some games, and watch your favorite movies or television specials.

If you’re like me and can’t even peel yourself away from the computer on Christmas, look up some classic holiday specials on YouTube, there’s a lot there. If you’ve never seen A Muppet Family Christmas, you should watch it, it’s one of my favorites.

We’ll get back to our normal posting schedule on Monday. Have a great weekend!
