The New ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Get a Trailer

And it looks interesting. Not as bad as I thought it would, but I’m still on the fence. The Turtles are huge. The CG doesn’t look horrible, but still, this will probably be terrible. I’m bummed we didn’t get a shot of Shredder suited up or of Splinter.

What do you guys think?

IDW Announces “Turtles in Time” Comic Mini-Series
I am way behind on the IDW TMNT series thanks to my iPad mini’s screen cracking (anyone know a good way to get that fixed?), but this Turtles in Time miniseries sounds amazing and I would actually buy physical copies to read it. Inspired by the SNES game? Sign me up.

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Trailer
I still don’t know what to think about the X-Men cinematic universe. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 14 years since the original came out. That movie basically got the ball rolling on the entire modern Superhero film genre. I never would have thought that 14 years later, some of the cast would still be playing those characters.

Reddit User tysmurph Paints Stills from Disney Movies
I saw these get posted over the last few days and I really hope it gets turned into a series. First up was a still from The Sword and the Stone, and then the other day one from 101 Dalmatians was posted.

Minecraft developer Mojang’s profits more than doubled in 2013
Minecraft is one of the most interesting gaming phenomenons of the last decade. I felt late to the party when I started playing it a few years ago and it was an obscure PC/Mac game. Now my nieces and nephews play it on their iPod Touches and iPads and it’s making Notch Scrooge McDuck money. And just think, in a couple years WB will release a Minecraft movie and it will explode even more.

Help Me Get This ‘Pizza Point’ Shirt Made!

Pizza Point

Last year I commissioned Cody from Crooked Ninja to make this awesome art based on the Pizza Points that came on the back of TMNT action figure cards. I had them made into vinyl stickers, but I’ve been dying to get Pizza Point shirts made. Rather than gambling real money on if enough people would be interested in buying these shirts, I decided to use a TeeSpring campaign to try and kickstart the idea.

If the minimum amount of orders gets met by April 6th, these shirts will get made and I will probably wear mine all the time. If you’re as nostalgic about the classic line of Playmates TMNT toys from the 80s and 90s, order one of these Pizza Points shirts and I’ll be eternally grateful!

Check it out on TeeSpring

Update: PS, I also made this Obscure Pop Culture Reference campaign because I’ve always wanted that on a shirt.

My favorite thing about doing these Missing Links posts is how random the topics are. I never thought I’d write about Godzilla, Vanilla Ice, and Scrooge McDuck in the same post.

Falcon Finally Gets a Character Poster for Captain America: The Winter Solider
The sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger looks great, but I wish they would show Falcon more in the marketing. His lack of posters and significant screen time in trailers is making me worry that he will barely be in the movie. At least he’s finally gotten a character poster. Fun experiment: Imagine it’s the late 90s and you saw this picture of Falcon. You’d be like…is this from a direct-to-video superhero movie? But now, in context with all the superhero movies we’ve seen, it doesn’t seem that strange. Here’s hoping he gets red and white instead of tactical gear in his next outing on the screen. Side note: Check out the first (and only so far) Marvel Phase 2 Character Guide I wrote for Falcon last year. I need to start this series back up.

Ninja Turtles + Vanilla Ice + Mac & Cheese = Mandatory Post on this Blog
At first I thought this was a new reality show about Vanilla Ice’s new career as a stock boy at a grocery store, but instead it’s an awesome commercial for Mac and Cheese.

Epic Godzilla ‘Empire Magazine’ Cover
I’m so excited about this movie, and I even liked the 1998 version. Shh, don’t tell anyone. Also, someone on Reddit (why yes, I do read the /r/Godzilla subreddit constantly) made a version with no text that can now be found as my phone wallpaper.

Toy Fair 2014 Roundup: TMNT, LEGO, Super Powers

TMNT Half-Shell Heroes

I told myself I was going to go to Toy Fair this year, but it didn’t work out. Hopefully next year! I wish it could have happened because there is a metric shitton of cool stuff getting announced. I’ll be keeping tabs on all the cool stuff and rounding up a lot of links and photos this week.

First off, Playmates teased a ton of new TMNT toys and they all look great. I’m lagging behind with their current Nickelodeon line (I haven’t been hunting for new figures for a while), but I don’t know how much longer I’ll try to get every figure in that line. However, they announced a cutesy line of Turtles called Half-Shell Heroes and they are the cutest things ever, so I will be buying all of those up.

It looks like they’ll release Half Shell Heroes versions of just about every character, a few vehicles and playsets, and even some jumbo versions of the cutesy Turtles. I think I may actually like these more than the main figures in Playmates’ current line. They look so fun.
