Thoughts on the Bebop and Rocksteady Classic Collection Figures

I kind of hate them. Ok, I don’t hate them, but I don’t love them. They’re the coolest Bebop and Rocksteady figures ever and they’re going to be huge and super detailed. I’ll buy at least two and I’ll spam Instagram with pictures. But I’m kind of disappointed. The promise of the Classic Collection to me was finally having figures that were screen accurate to the 80s cartoon characters. Bebop and Rocksteady are the figures I wanted to get that treatment the most, and I’ve been waiting to get a look at them forever.

I think the sculpt of the bodies is awesome, the accessories look perfect, and the size compared to the Turtles looks spot on. The heads just look wrong to me though. They’re too serious, too realistic looking, and too wrinkly. Seriously, what’s with all the wrinkles?

Bebop and Rocksteady are goofy as hell. They’re always smiling and cutting wise, and even when they’re frowning or trying to look tough they look ridiculous. Everything about these figures is awesome to me, but the heads just look weird. I’m sure it’s just me and like I said, I’ll still get them, but what do you think?

Head over to Toy News International for more photos and a video of Playmates’ booth at Toy Fair, which has some awesome new toys in the Nickelodeon line.

So I Guess VHS Nostalgia is a Thing Now

VHS Nostalgia

I was wandering through my local Goodwill yesterday and after finding a sweet toy from my childhood I ventured into the VHS section. Now it’s important to note that I don’t have a CRT TV or a VCR and haven’t for like six years. But, I’ve been wanting to get a little TV/VCR combo to put in my office so I can play old-school video games and watch random VHS tapes, so me getting all nostalgic isn’t totally unwarranted.

Anyway, I’m standing at this wall of VHS tapes reading the ends of the boxes upside down and trying to spot anything good, and I realize that I’m going to bring home a stack of VHS tapes that I’ll only be able to look at. I started to put them back, but my moment of sanity was sadly temporary.

Roseanne is ‘Kraang Prime’

Kraang Prime

Well, this is awesome news. I was already looking forward to Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles returning on January 25th, but now I’m even more excited. TV Guide is reporting that everyone’s favorite TV mom, Roseanne Barr, is going to be a guest star in the season finale of TMNT. The coolest part is who she is playing. Get this: her character’s name is Kraang Prime.

This timing couldn’t be any better. My wife and I recently started watching Roseanne after randomly wondering if the show would still be funny having not seen it since we were younger. We got some discs from Netflix and realized that it is even funnier than it was when we were kids, and we’re hooked. Once you get past the hair and the clothes the show is pretty timeless, and is still really funny. We’re also super into the new TMNT cartoon, so you can see why I’m so excited about this.

I also had a feeling that the whole collective brain vibe the Kraang had going on would lead to some kind of Queen or big Kraang at some point, and this pretty much confirms it. A big, obnoxious Kraang voiced by Roseanne sounds awesome, and I can’t wait for the finale.

With new toys and merchandise hitting stores while the current stuff is still selling out like crazy and new episodes of the show airing soon, it’s a great time to be a TMNT fan.

Turtlemania Update: Tons of New TMNT Merchandise Demands Your Money

If only that Leonardo chair was adult-sized.

Being a hardcore TMNT fan that’s all growed up now means that the new wave of Turtlemania that’s sweeping the nation is super exciting, and potentially super expensive. It’s hard to pass up TMNT products now that they’re popular again, but it’s already gotten too big for me to keep up with. I’ll stick with the toys and a few other bits of merchandise that catches my eye, but there’s no way I could get everything.

Regardless, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the newest TMNT merch that’s available at various stores just in case you want to waste spend some of your hard-earned cash.

Cool Stuff: TMNT Valentine Candy Card Kit

TMNT Valentine Candy Card Kit

While waiting for drugs at my local Meijer today (I got a wisdom tooth pulled, yay), I spotted these nifty Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Valentines. Ever since Christmas was over and Valentine’s Day stuff started creeping it’s way into stores, I’d been wondering if Nickelodeon would be making any of the Turtle variety this year. Well, they are!

I threw this in my cart (along with some Mutagen Ooze, more on that later) without really reading the box, because Turtles! When I got it home I realized it was a Valentine Candy Card Kit. I wasn’t sure what that meant exactly, so I cracked it open.
