Toy Fair 2014 Roundup: TMNT, LEGO, Super Powers

TMNT Half-Shell Heroes

I told myself I was going to go to Toy Fair this year, but it didn’t work out. Hopefully next year! I wish it could have happened because there is a metric shitton of cool stuff getting announced. I’ll be keeping tabs on all the cool stuff and rounding up a lot of links and photos this week.

First off, Playmates teased a ton of new TMNT toys and they all look great. I’m lagging behind with their current Nickelodeon line (I haven’t been hunting for new figures for a while), but I don’t know how much longer I’ll try to get every figure in that line. However, they announced a cutesy line of Turtles called Half-Shell Heroes and they are the cutest things ever, so I will be buying all of those up.

It looks like they’ll release Half Shell Heroes versions of just about every character, a few vehicles and playsets, and even some jumbo versions of the cutesy Turtles. I think I may actually like these more than the main figures in Playmates’ current line. They look so fun.

Missing Links: Cancelled TMNT Toys, Retro Spaceship Gaming Room

Missing Links

There were a lot of cool links the past few days, but these stood out as the coolest, at least in my opinion.

Unreleased Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Toys
Cody over at Crooked Ninja wrote up an awesome article highlighting some cancelled TMNT toys from back in the day. I’d never seen most of these, and some of them are really awesome! It’s an interested part of TMNT toy history and you should definitely check it out.

Awesome Retro Spaceship Gaming Room
I found this on Reddit and it’s amazing. Someone with a very fancy Victorian home in the UK converted their “otherwise useless” attic into a gaming room that looks like it jumped right off the screen of an 80s Sci-Fi movie. The whole house will only set you back around 4 million euros.

Muppets Most Wanted Soundtrack Listing Revealed
My favorite thing revealed by these track listings is that Jemaine Clement is in the movie.

Star Wars toys photos look more realistic than the real Star Wars
These photos are awesome. Every time we get snow in Indiana, I always wish I had a bunch of Empire Strikes Back toys so I could go outside and take some Hoth-inspired photos.

First Look at the Turtles and Shredder from the Upcoming Movie

New TMNT Designs

In case you haven’t heard yet, some designs leaked from the new TMNT movie. It looks like concept art for Shredder and some design statues of the four Turtles have leaked, albeit in low resolution. Maybe the filmmakers will use this as motivation to get an official look at the characters out sometime soon.

I’ll be honest, I’m actually kind of liking these designs. The movie may suck, but I’m going to hold off any more judgement until we see a trailer. I don’t mind the Turtles having the looks they have in these images. I love that they are thick and muscular and not skinny like the CG movie.

TMNT Movie

Shredder looks a little like a cross between Super Shredder and Lord Zed, but we’ll see how he looks in motion. Honestly I was expecting way worse for Shredder so I’m sort of relieved. If this movie is at least decent, I could see it making a lot of money. Especially if they keep a few of the 80s throwbacks that were in the leaked script. That script had Bebop, Rocksteady, the Technodrome, and more. If they at least have a couple nods to the 80s cartoon while still having good CG and action, they could hit a sweet spot of people our age seeing this and young people seeing it because of Turtlemania 2.0.

What do you guys think?

The New TMNT ‘Ninjas in Training’ Are Adorable

Ninjas in Training

It’s no secret that I love the new Nickelodeon TMNT action figures. I’ve been trying to keep up with all the awesome figures that have been coming out over the past year or so, and from the villains to the main figures I’ve been super impressed. Recently Playmates released a new batch of figures that contain what could be the cutest Ninja Turtles ever relased: Ninjas in Training.

Released as two separate packs (kind of lame, but whatever), these ‘Lil Turtles are short, stocky, and outfitted with wooden training weapons. Seeing as how I totally skipped the 2K TMNT show and missed out on the Toddler Turtles (read this and this), I’m excited to finally be able to own baby versions of the Turtles.

My first idea after successfully tracking down both sets was to put them in front of the Muppet Babies ColorForms set I have and post it to Instagram because I’m a big dork.
