Vintage Valentines Cards!

Vintage Valentines!

This year I finally remembered to do something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time before it was too late. For a while I’ve been hoarding unopened Valentine’s Day card boxes from the 80s and 90s, with the intention of just giving them out to people. For some reason I always forget to get it going before it’s too late, but this year I am on top of it. I ordered a bunch of new Valentine’s and have been preparing for a massive Vintage Valentines Giveaway!

It’s not a contest or anything, I just want to send you Valentines. I am pretty obsessed with vintage stuff and I get a kick out of seeing Valentines cards from when I was younger, and I figured that a lot of you would too. Who doesn’t remember decorating your cereal box and getting bombarded with cards in elementary school? I remember saving the most awesome cards in each box for my best friends and crushes.

Disney is Making a Live Action/CG ‘Rescue Rangers’ Movie. Wait, What?

Rescue Rangers

I haven’t seen the Smurfs or Chipmunk movies because they look like horrible abominations and I feel like I have to sit through a trailer for one every other time I go to the movies. But, they seem to make a shitton of money and it looks like Disney wants to get a piece of that pie by using one of the most beloved cartoons from my childhood, Chip n Dale’s Rescue Rangers. I feel conflicted.

Pros

  • Rescue Rangers getting popular again means it’s more likely for shows like Ducktales and Gummi Bears to make comebacks
  • It could be really fun if done by people who loved the show
  • The theme song is bitchin

Cons

  • It will probably suck
  • The director is very inexperienced
  • It’s live action/cg hybrid
  • The theme song will probably be covered by some horrible band

Seriously, why live action/CG? Rescue Rangers would look awesome as a straight CG movie. The Rescue Rangers didn’t get involved with humans much anyway, it was mostly other animals. Oh well, maybe it won’t be the worst thing ever.

Jesse Eisenberg is Lex Luthor

Jesse Eisenberg

Well, I don’t think anyone saw that coming. Everyone was expecting someone like Bryan Cranston to get cast as Lex Luthor, but today WB announced that Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, or Rio if you watch the kind of movies I do) is playing the villain in the Man of Steel sequel.

It’s…an interesting choice. I’m not upset or anything, I think he can pull it off. WB also announced that Jeremy Irons is playing Alfred, which is an equally interesting choice.

It makes sense to show Lex as a young genius and Jesse can definitely do that. The studio probably also wanted to cast someone younger than a Cranston and lock them in to a ton of sequels.

At the end of the day, I don’t really care who plays Lex as long as we get to see him in a big green and purple power suit at some point. Ammiright?

Ouya: A (Very Late) Review

Posted 2 months ago by in Games | 4 Comments

Ouya

I wasn’t a Kickstarter backer of the Ouya, because I thought an Andoird-powered gaming system sounded pretty dumb. It wasn’t until I started hearing about how it was pretty great for emulation that I started considering it. Then over the summer I got a $100 Amazon card and it was burning a hole in my pocket, so I ordered an Ouya. I’ve been meaning to write up a review for months, but I hadn’t used it much until the past couple weeks.

When I first got it, I loaded up a bunch of ROMs, from NES all the way up to Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1, onto a flash drive and dove into setting up emulators. Some are obviously just ports of Android apps and have very crappy UIs, but there are a few that are very nice and look great on a TV in your living room. Overall, they worked well, but N64 and PSX games were a lot more flakey.

I thought for $99 it wasn’t a bad little gadget to get if you wanted an easy (and couch-friendly) way to get ROMs on your TV. The made-for-Ouya games I tried were horrible, and so I wrote off that whole aspect of the console. Then last week I played Towerfall with a friend.

Threadless has Lion King Shirts. That is all.

Lion King Shirts

Threadless continues to kill it with their special design challenges based on licensed stuff. I grabbed a couple of their Simpsons shirts over the holidays, and today they announced something awesome for a kid from the 90s: Lion King shirts.

The Lion King is probably in my top ten movies of all time, and they’ve got a few great designs. Future King and Hakuna Matata are my favorites, but the others are pretty good too.

Now, can we get some Aladdin tees?
