Pendleton Ward Has Started a Video Game Website, You Guys

Posted 8 years ago by Games

I’m willing to bet there are at least 23 video game websites created every day. What doesn’t happen every day is that the amazing Pendleton Ward decides to make a video game website. Ward is the creator of the super-awesome Adventure Time cartoon series. He announced the launch of the Tumblr-based site Friday on his Twitter account @buenothebear.

The site is named I LOVE GAMES YOU GUYS. There’s not much of substance there yet besides a note of his intentions. With his first post he said, “My name is Pendleton Ward. I want to interview people who work on games.” He seems to have pretty lofty goals as he followed up with a question about interviewing anyone involved with the Mario games.

Besides just the notion of Pendleton creating a game site, it’s nice to see that he’s including some simple animation on the site. He’s got three Adventure Time-esque Mario cartoons posted. Each is a black and white line drawing of four frames each. Simple yet effective.

Here’s hoping Pendleton gets his wish to interview someone from the world of Mario, perhaps even Miyamoto himself. I hope that he takes time to interview the people of the smaller, indie games as well.

The Makers of Robot Chicken Announce Star Wars Detours

Posted 8 years ago by Television

There are two things in life I enjoy above pretty much every. Well, two things other than my family, career, dog, and all the other stuff I’m supposed to say. Those two things are Star Wars and funny stuff.

That means I’m an instant fan of this new creation from the funnymakers at Robot Chicken. Surely you’ve seen the Adult Swim TV series created by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich . They’ve done a few Star Wars parody specials over the years. Now they seem to have gone whole hog Gamorrean Guard into Star Wars with Star Wars Detours.

It’s an animated series that was just announced at Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando. The details are a bit sketchy on whether it’ll be a TV or web series. With Robot Chicken and Lucasfilm’s existing relationships with Cartoon Network, I have to assume it’ll be on there.

Check out the trailer above and watch the three clips over at starwars.com. There’s also an official Detours Facebook page.

Missing Links

The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

WTF: LucasFilm and Disney Combine To Create Star Wars ‘Cars’ Figures | /Film
WTF indeed, but these are actually kind of cool. And anything to get my totally-uninterested nephews into Star Wars.

See Concept Art from the Early ’80s ‘Silver Surfer’ Movie That Never Happened | Movie News | Movies.com
The Silver Surfer was almost the first Marvel movie ever. Interesting.

Vlog: TMNT Sewer Exploration Belt, from 1990. | Dinosaur Dracula!
I totally forgot about the Sewer Exploration Belt. I never had one, but it was on my radar. I opted to get the Turtle Communicator instead, but I love the less-known bits of TMNT merchandise.

‘The Office’ Closes After One More Season | /Film
The second half of last season was a disappointment to me, but the promise of going out with a bang will get me to tune in. I just hope they bring Michael Scott back for at least one episode.

Rumor: John Travolta Might Play ‘The Toxic Avenger’
Wait, what?

I'll be very surprised if LEGO doesn't make this a thing really soon.

Jerry Nelson has Died

Jerry Nelson

Man, what a bummer. Jerry Nelson, lifelong Muppeteer and musician has passed away. Jerry is best known for performing Floyd, Robin, Gobo Fraggle, and The Count, and he’s always been my favorite Muppeteer. He had an extremely versatile voice and I always loved when he got to sing.

Jerry had been sick for a while and passed away yesterday on August 23rd, 2012.

In the past few years, his health kept him from performing but he still recorded voice overs for Sesame Street, and even made a cameo appearance in last year’s The Muppets as the theater announcer. He was a gifted musician, and in 2010 released an album called Truro Daydreams. One of my proudest geek moments on the site was when he left a comment on the post I made about his album.

Email

I usually pride myself in keeping my email inbox cleaned out and manageable, but I’ve never been able to archive the email I got from the site the day Jerry Nelson left a comment. I always wanted to send him a quick email letting him know what a huge fan I was, but I never did. I think I’ll keep that email around.

In addition to the Muppet movies, some of my favorite things Jerry was a part of include Follow That Bird and Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas. And of course, it’s impossible to think about Fraggle Rock without Jerry Nelson. He was Gobo Fraggle and Marjory the Trash Heap, Pa Gorg, and many more.

Make sure to read Tough Pigs’ great write up and leave a comment with your favorite Jerry Nelson moments.

My Ultimate Saturday Morning Cartoon Lineup

Saturday Morning Cartoons

This week’s assignment from The League is right up my alley. I mean come on, this site used to be called Saturday Morning Central, there’s no way I could pass up the chance to create my own Ultimate Saturday Morning Cartoon Lineup.

I watched cartoons constantly as a kid. After school I would watch a good two or three hours of shows, in the mornings before catching the bus I would watch reruns of Beast Wars, and of course on Saturday Mornings I could always count on a few hours of cartoons accompanied by my favorite cereal.
