Nickelodeon’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Makes Me Say Booyakasha

TMNT

I don’t think I’ve ever been as excited about a new cartoon as I’ve been about Nickelodeon’s new TMNT show, and that’s saying a lot. I’ve been pumped about it for months and it finally premiered this Saturday morning with the one-hour Rise of the Turtles. What did I think of it?

I thought it was awesome, and I’m really excited to see where it goes this season.

Halloween

It’s that time of year! The mighty month of October is upon us, and that means hoodie weather, pumpkins, Reese’s Pumpkins, an excuse to sit out your old McDonald’s pails, and of course Halloween countdowns on all your favorite blogs.

I love Halloween as much as the next blogger, but I won’t be posting a Halloween countdown this year and thought I’d let you know why, as well as fill you in on what sites I’m checking every day this season. So, Y U No post a countdown you say?

Missing Links

The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

Remember playing games on the old-school iPods?

Check Out This Unseen Trailer For Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ Featuring Webshooters | /Film
A weird bit of Spider-Man movie history. I never knew Raimi ever even considered mechanical web shooters.

Simpsons Drawing Club
An awesome new Tumblr featuring, you guessed it, drawings of Simpsons characters. There are a lot of different styles, and I'm looking forward to following this one.

It's close, but I think this is my new favorite poster featuring 13 dwarves.

I still haven't given the LEGO board games a try yet, but this Hobbit-themed game looks awesome and I may have to pick it up.

‘Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation Volume One’ DVD Review

Ninja Turtles The Next Mutation DVD

Being a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan often means embracing the good (the comics, the first movie, the ’87 cartoon) and the bad (Coming out of Our Shells Tour). The Turtles’ inherent wackiness keeps me from ever taking it too seriously, but one piece of TMNT history always gives me that weird embarrassed feeling, and that is Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation.

In case you didn’t turn on your TV for the five minutes that NT:TNM aired in the late nineties or you’ve just done a better job than me of repressing the memories of this show, I’ll fill you in. The Next Mutation was the first (and only) live-action TMNT show, and it was made by Saban, of Power Rangers fame. The costumes were pretty horrible, April and Casey are nowhere to be found, and the Shredder barely shows up at all. Sounds like a formula for a great TMNT show!

Cool Stuff: Captain America Propaganda Posters

Captain America Propaganda Poster

I love the Captain America movie, and the whole WWII, propaganda-ish setting really sold it for me as a film. Combine that with the fact that I’m obsessed with geek art in the form of awesome posters, and you’ll see why these are right up my alley.

eFX created the posters and trading cards for Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers, respectively, and now they’re producing them as really-for-real products. The one I’m most interested in is the badass propaganda poster you see above, but they have a lot more. It looks like they’ll also be getting into the prop replica business, if super expensive prop replicas is your cup of tea.

I think I’ll stick with the $20 posters.
