Don't Blink

When Steven Moffat unleashed Blink, the now-iconic episode of the modern era of Doctor Who, he brought back something that was sadly missing from Who up until this point – a truly terrifying, original monster.

There have been plenty of t-shirts made featuring the Weeping Angels, but very few are as awe-inspiring as this one from Ript, available today only. The artwork is impressive, and even if you’re not a fan of the text, as some people on Ript’s site are saying, it doesn’t detract from the overall design too much. Personally, I really dig the text and its rough appearance. And without the text, it would just be an angel statue on a t-shirt. Sure, it could be a Doctor Who reference, or it could be a lame Goth shirt kids buy at Hot Topic. The text makes it a Doctor Who shirt, so it’s absolutely essential to the design.

If you’re a Who fan, head over to Ript today and snatch up this excellent design today. It’s $10 well spent.

‘Superman Classic’ by Robb Pratt

Posted 9 years ago by Animated Shorts

Rob Pratt is a veteran Disney animator who recently created this awesome (but short) Superman animated film aptly called Superman Classic. He used music from the old Superman serials, the voice of Superboy from the short-lived TV series, and animated it himself with a couple friends. The results are pretty amazing. Well done, Rob.

Further Proof that Brad Bird is Awesome

Posted 9 years ago by Videos

Luckily for us animation nerds, the past weekend wasn’t just about football. The 38th Annual Annie Awards were given out and among the honorees was everyone’s favorite animation director and all-around bad-ass, Brad Bird. Brad received a Windsor McCay award along with Eric Goldberg and Matt Groening. Here’s how the Annie Awards describes the honor:

Named in honor of animator Winsor McCay, best known as a prolific artist and pioneer in the art of comic strips and animation, the Winsor McCay Award stands as one of the highest honors given to an individual in the animation industry in recognition for career contributions to the art of animation.

Brad Bird couldn’t be there to accept the award due to his duties directing the next installment of the Mission Impossible series, and sent in his ‘thank you’ speech in the form of this awesome video. Feel free to skip the clip show and get to the good part around 4:30.

Brad Bird could direct traffic and I’d pay $10 to watch.

‘Thor’ Super Bowl Teaser Commercial

Posted 9 years ago by Movies

Thanks to today’s sporting event we’ve got another quick (but awesome) look at Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Thor film. Along with Captain America, this is a movie I can’t wait to see.

It’s short but there are quite a few new scenes, including glimpses of Asgard, buff Chris Hemsworth, and some kind of creature about to get it’s face hammered.

Thor comes out in the US on May 6th.

Captain America: The First Avenger Super Bowl Teaser

Posted 9 years ago by Movies

The one good thing about the Super Bowl every year (in my opinion) is that we get a few new movie trailers to watch, and this year has quite a few. This commercial teaser for Captain America: The First Avenger is the one I was looking forward to most, as it’s the first footage to premier anywhere. I think it looks awesome, and I’m still very excited about this one. The pre-super-soldier Steve Rogers looks amazing puny, and I was surprised they included a quick shot of the Red Skull.

And a bonus, here’s the first teaser poster that was released a couple days ago. What do you think?
