Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 Blu-ray Review

Posted 10 years ago by Movies

A few days ago I reviewed The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Disney’s attempt at making an action-adventure film out of the classic Mickey Mouse sequence in Fantasia. Seeing that so-so movie really made me want to watch the original, and luckily Disney released Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 on Blu-ray last week.

Talking to Your Kids About Star Wars

Posted 10 years ago by Movies

As you’ll quickly learn about me, I’m both a dad and a huge Star Wars fan. For me, this video came several years too late. I realize now that I didn’t start early enough with the Star Wars indoctrination education of my young son. Much to my dismay, a babysitter told him of the relationship between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker when he was just five. It was a secret I was holding until he was just a little older. That secret disappeared at $20 for three hours’ work.

Needless to say, we never used that babysitter again.

If you a parent to small children, or even if you think you’ll have kids one day, it’s important — nay, it’s imperative — that you watch this video now. You can then plan according for your child’s path to Star Wars. Believe me, it’s never too early.

First Look: The Official Thor Trailer

Posted 10 years ago by Movies

Yesterday we got the first sneak peek at the official Thor poster, and today the trailer is upon us in all it’s glory. It’s pretty much the same trailer they showed at SDCC, but everything looks more polished and there is a bit of new material. I think it looks very promising, but what do you think?

Thor Poster

It’s really nothing we haven’t seen yet visually, but it is the first official Thor poster. It should be in theaters this weekend, and the first trailer will probably be before Tron: Legacy (which John and I get to see early, expect our reviews early next week).

I’m officially pumped about Thor and Captain America. What about you?

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Blu-ray Review

I missed The Sorcerer’s Apprentice in theaters, mainly on purpose, but I watched it on Blu-ray last night and it was actually an enjoyable movie. It’s not great cinema, but it was a pretty good adventure with great special effects and a healthy dose of Nicolas Cage scowling at the camera. So in other words, there’s something for everyone!

To be honest, the story was very predictable and cliche, and besides the fact that they tried connecting magic with science, the actual use of it was very very Harry Potter influenced.

Jay Baruchel is still fun to watch, and until Hollywood typecasts him into oblivion I think he will be for a while. Still, that’s not enough to save a movie with a laughable plot, Nicolas Cage as a Sorcerer, and a boring, tacked-on, love interest subplot.
