Cool Stuff: Marvel Superheros ‘Got Milk’ Commercial

Posted 6 years ago by Television

I vaguely remember seeing this commercial back in the day, but it’s interesting to see now that we’re actually used to having The Avengers in live action on film. The costumes in this Got Milk commercial are straight out of the comics, and are pretty interesting. That Hulk actually looks kind of awesome! I know they wouldn’t have been able to use that for a movie very well, but it looks really cool. And that Spidey costume doesn’t look bad at all.

Iron Man on the other hand looks a little derpy.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Might Be My New Favorite Marvel Movie

Posted 6 years ago by Movies

The Winter Soldier

I saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier last night, and although I had myself hyped to the max about the sequel the one of my favorite superhero movies of all-time, I didn’t expect it to be so damn amazing. After talking about it with my wife today I realized that TWS may be my new favorite Marvel movie. The story, action, and writing are all excellent and even though I hold The Avengers on a pretty high pedestal, The Winter Soldier may be my new favorite.

Maybe.

First off, the action. The fight scenes in TWS are so well choreographed and hard-hitting I was giddy in the theater. Winter Soldier shows off Cap’s talents better than his other two movie outings for sure. He easily knocks out thugs, sends them flying with a kick, and is super agile.

That wouldn’t be enough to make this my favorite Marvel movie by itself, but the supporting characters are great, the story is very interesting (and will impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe more than any other film) and the dialogue between characters is a lot of fun. TWS made Nick Fury seem like a real person to me for the first time. I hated his dialogue in The Avengers, but in TWS he feels like a real person and actually made me excited to see him in more movies. The same goes for Black Widow. She has more depth in this movie and has some great banter with Cap.

Hey there! Sorry for the lack of posts lately, but you know, life and busy and blah blah. Anyway, I wanted to let you know to keep an eye out for the first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which drops today at 9am PST on Apple’s Trailer site. I’m super excited about this movie and can’t wait to see the trailer. I’m sure it will play in front of Thor 2 next week (which I’m also super pumped about) but if you’re like me you’ll want to see it as soon as possible.

It will be interesting to see how they handle Falcon and how the general public reacts to Cap’s more stealthy costume this time around. I’ll update this post later today with my thoughts on the trailer, so come back and we can get a nice geeky discussion going!

Introducing Marvel Phase 2 Character Guides

Marvel Phase 2

Even though I’ve been hooked on comics lately, I still only consider myself a casual comic book fan. When I was fifteen or so, I read a lot of graphic novels and religiously bought new issues of Wizard Magazine, but I didn’t make it to comic book shops often enough (or have the money) to keep up with ongoing stories. When you take into account the decades and decades of history most of the major superheroes have now, not to mention all the reboots and parallel timelines it can be overwhelming to get into a new character.

Being way more of a movie buff than a comic one, I am a huge fan of what Marvel has done with their Cinematic Universe. Iron Man was a big surprise, and although The Incredible Hulk was just alright and Iron Man 2 was a disappointment, the shared universe really picked up steam when Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers all came out within a year of each other.

With Phase 2 of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe kicking off in a few months with Iron Man 3, I’ve been wanting to prepare and learn about all the new characters that will be on screen. With Phase 1, I knew the backstories of all the characters but this time around things are getting a little more obscure.

Phase 2 Character Guides

So, I decided to do some research on the main new characters in Phase 2 and share it with you all, as well as open it up for discussion. I’m sure there are plenty of comic book nerds out there who can point us in the right direction as far as what we should read before seeing the new movies. These won’t be histories or biographies. Think of them more like bibliographies. A collection of stuff I’ve found that should help better understand the characters.

So, throughout the next few months we will be looking at different characters from the next batch of Marvel movies, which are:

Cool Stuff: Captain America Propaganda Posters

Captain America Propaganda Poster

I love the Captain America movie, and the whole WWII, propaganda-ish setting really sold it for me as a film. Combine that with the fact that I’m obsessed with geek art in the form of awesome posters, and you’ll see why these are right up my alley.

eFX created the posters and trading cards for Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers, respectively, and now they’re producing them as really-for-real products. The one I’m most interested in is the badass propaganda poster you see above, but they have a lot more. It looks like they’ll also be getting into the prop replica business, if super expensive prop replicas is your cup of tea.

I think I’ll stick with the $20 posters.
