‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Gets a Trailer

Posted 6 years ago by Movies

First impressions? One, between this and Jurassic World, Chris Pratt is going to explode in the next year or two. Second, this movie looks awesome and I need to see it ASAP.

I hope we get a second trailer with some talking Rocket Raccoon sometime soon though. I like the vibe in this trailer and that it doesn’t spoil anything, but I’m afraid the marketing will start spoiling everything closer to summer because Marvel will be worried about making sure people know what this is all about.

What do you guys think?

Marvel Movie Roundup: Ant-Man and Doctor Strange Casting

Marvel Roundup

This has been a pretty interesting week for Marvel movie news and rumors. The next couple years is going to be an exciting time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it continues into Phase 2 and gets into Phase 3.

Ant-Man

First up was the news that Michael Douglas is set to play Hank Pym in Edgar Wright’s Phase 3 kickoff movie Ant-Man. I’ve been excited about this movie for years and this just makes it sound better. We already knew that Paul Rudd was playing the main character (the Scott Lang Ant-man), and that the film will be a heist movie, so setting up an older Hank Pym as the original Ant-Man and casting someone like Douglas to play him is pretty awesome, in my opinion.

Marvel Takes the MCU to Another Level with ‘Thor: The Dark World’

Thor 2

Disclaimer: I’ve had a few drinks and I just finished rebuilding the site, so this post may ramble on a lot longer than it should. Feel free to make fun of me in the comments.

This past Thursday night the wife and I saw Thor: The Dark World after months of anticipation. Unlike a lot (seemingly) of my fellow Marvel movie buffs, I really really like the first Thor. Compared to an Iron Man or a Captain America, Thor and the concept of the nine realms was the trickiest thing Marvel had to try and introduce to the general movie-going crowd, and I feel like they handled it very well. Fast forward a couple years, and in my opinion, the sequel takes the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe to another level. I loved it, and it just makes me more excited for the expansion of the MCU.

The Slow Build

When you look at the MCU starting form Iron Man in 2008, you can start to realize the genius behind their whole strategy. They started with concepts that weren’t that hard to buy into. Tony Stark is a brilliant dude, he builds a suit that lets him become a superhero. I can buy that. Then they threw in that post-credits scene with Nick Fury and set this years-long expansion in motion.

Unlike Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk, Thor had to work in order to set up The Avengers. Whether or not you like the first Thor film as much as I do, you have to admit that they succeeded in selling the concept. People love Loki. People get that there are different realms, that Thor and his Asgardian bros aren’t gods, but more like aliens. This let us believe in the power of the Cosmic Cube that the Red Skull harnesses in Captain America, and the madness that Loki unleashes in The Avengers. Smart guy in metal suit to full-scale alien invasion in just four years. That’s impressive.

wintersold

Hey there! Sorry for the lack of posts lately, but you know, life and busy and blah blah. Anyway, I wanted to let you know to keep an eye out for the first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which drops today at 9am PST on Apple’s Trailer site. I’m super excited about this movie and can’t wait to see the trailer. I’m sure it will play in front of Thor 2 next week (which I’m also super pumped about) but if you’re like me you’ll want to see it as soon as possible.

It will be interesting to see how they handle Falcon and how the general public reacts to Cap’s more stealthy costume this time around. I’ll update this post later today with my thoughts on the trailer, so come back and we can get a nice geeky discussion going!

SDCC Roundup: Comic Book Movie Edition

SDCC

Going on vacation during the biggest week for Geek news is kind of overwhelming. I came back from a fun-filled day at Disney World to an RSS Reader full of news stories. Since I don’t have the time to write about all of them in-depth, I’m going to be posting SDCC roundups a few times this week. Today’s edition is all about comic book movies, and there’s a lot of news.
