Wreck-it Ralph

Heads up geeks, Disney just announced that their awesome animated tribute to video games Wreck-it Ralph will be out on Blu-ray on February 12th. That’s not as soon as, say, tomorrow, but it’s not that far away either.

This movie will be great to own, rewatch, and pause to see all the cameos that we didn’t catch in the theater. As for bonus features, you can expect:

Post Christmas/Blizzard Update

iPad Mini

Hi there! Sorry for the lack of posts over the holidays, but things got a little Cray-Cray in my neck of the woods. I got the Flu From Hell™ right before Christmas, and then Indianapolis was slammed with a blizzard [obligatory cute dog pic] on the 26th, which really doesn’t effect my ability to post here but I like using the word blizzard as an excuse for things.

This was a one-big-gift-instead-of-lots-of-little-ones kind of year, because I scored an iPad Mini. I’ll be writing more about it later, but I finally feel like I can get into reading comics again now thanks to this little device. I’ve tried reading comics on my wife’s iPad, but wasn’t too crazy about the weight and size, so the Mini is perfect for me.

I’ve caught up on the entire IDW TMNT series and I love it. Besides Comixology, I downloaded Comic Zeal Reader to handle all the digitally acquired CBR/CBZ files I had on my computer. Now I have a few GBs of comics that should last me quite a while.

The iPad Mini is an awesome gaming device too. I have a ton of games on my iPhone but now I think I’ll do most of my gaming on the Mini and reserve my phone for more phone-type things.

Besides that I got a cool little LEGO set from the new Galaxy Squad line that I’ll post in the next few days. I still have a stack of books to review for the site too.

I have high hopes for 2013 here on the ‘squatch, so I think it will be a fun year!

So, how was your Christmas?

Book Review – Dark Shadows: The Visual Companion

Dark Shadows

The cult TV show Dark Shadows ran from 1966 until 1971.  I wasn’t even born when the odd, supernatural soap opera went off the air, so it wasn’t something I was familiar with until a few years ago when Tim Burton talked about doing a movie based on the show.  Frankly, the movie never really interested me since I had no connection whatsoever to the property, until I saw the first trailer.  It would have been easy for Burton to set the movie in the modern age, but, no, he had to go retro with a 1970s period piece.  And that alone interested me.  Not enough to see it in the theatre, mind you, but enough to spend $1 at one of the 3,000 Redbox machines within two blocks of my house.

Going into the movie blind, with only the vaguest notion of what the central premise was, I can’t say that my “intrigued” attitude grew to become affection.  I didn’t care about any of the characters, the comedy mostly fell flat for me, and the plot was less than inspiring.  Yet I felt compelled to finish the movie, just because it was such a bold experiment in movie-making, mostly due to the set and costume design.

That LEGO Back to the Future Set is Totally Happening You Guys

As if it wasn’t hard enough to find the LEGO Minecraft set that was released through their Kickstarter-like CUUSOO site, LEGO has just announced the next project that’s getting the really-for-real treatment is this awesome Back to the Future Delorean.

It’ll probably take forever for this to come out, but you know they’re going to sell out like crazy. I was really hoping they would make the Modular Western Town, but apparently they have a new Western theme of their own brewing and they felt it would conflict.

What do you think, will you be picking this one up?

missinglinks

The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

Denny’s “The Hobbit” Menu Video Review
I’m glad I only entertained the thought of going to Denny’s for a split second, because these Hobbit-inspired dishes look pretty disgusting.

Will ‘Star Wars Episode VII’ Return To Yavin 4 From ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope?’
This sounds like a plan to me. I always loved the look of Yavin IV in A New Hope, and Luke training a new breed of Jedi could make for a fun movie.

Things We Saw Today: These Hobbit Cupcakes Would Make for a Great Second Breakfast
Mmm….Hobbit cupcakes.

High Frame Rate and ‘The Hobbit:’ The Allure of Middle-Earth is Crystal Clear at 48fps | /Film
Interesting thoughts on the 48 fps thing with The Hobbit. I really wish there was a theater close to me showing the film in HFR.

Dark Lord: an evil overlord trapped in a kid’s body – Boing Boing
Another YA novel I'd like to read. This one sounds hilarious and I hope they make a movie.

Life As We Knew It – asteroid catastrophe young adult novel – Boing Boing
Cool-sounding YA novel that I might check out. Because, you know, regular-adult novels are so looong.
