LEGO Disney Princess Line

LEGO Disney Princesses

Did you know LEGO is releasing a Disney Princess line in 2014? I had no idea. I’m not exactly their target market, but I can tell you that I’ve got quite a few nieces who are going to eat these sets up. Not surprisingly, the minifigures are based on the LEGO Friends line, but I don’t think they look that bad.

The first sets will be based around Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Tangled, and Brave.

Ben Affleck’s Batman May Have an Awesome Costume

Posted 10 years ago by Movies

Jim Lee Batman

Man of Steel comes out on Blu-ray today, and during an event to promote the release, Kevin Smith raved about the new Batman costume in the upcoming sequel. Zack Snyder also made comments about Lex Luthor, seemingly confirming his role in the movie, but I think everyone expected that. The juicy part of this story is hearing Smith, a huge Batman geek, talk about the new costume.

I saw the costume, more than that I saw him [Ben Affleck] in the costume…I don’t want to give anything away cause that is up to them and stuff, but I am going to say this…I instantly bear hugged him. You have not seen this costume in a movie, on film before. For a comb book fan, it was mind-bending… Because every other movie has done this matrixy black armor thing…There wasn’t a single nipple on this fucking suit man… I think everyone is just gonna be like ‘Holy Shit!’ It’s its own thing, man. We haven’t been down this path before…. There’s a very [beep]-influence to it, I would say.

Fans that attended the event mentioned that the beeped part of his description was Jim Lee. Lee was responsible for the awesome grey/blue suit in the early 2000s, and if that’s the direction they’re taking it for this movie then I am on board. Earlier reports were that the suit would be inspired by the graphic novel Batman Noel, so signs are pointing to a more grey/black/blue/pouchy design.

I think this is great news. Even though I love the Nolan Batman movies, I’m ready for a new version of Bats on the big screen. I doubt Affleck will be running around in tights, but as long as it doesn’t look overly tactical and has some grey in it, I’ll be happy.

What do you think though?

Further Proof ‘The LEGO Movie’ is Going to be Awesome

The LEGO Movie

Man, I am so ridiculously pumped for The LEGO Movie. It looks hilarious and I love the design of the film and how the characters move like real LEGOs instead of the bendy style of the LEGO video games and TV shows. The cast is amazing, and now I’m excited about all the upcoming tie-in LEGO sets.

The entire next series of collectible minifigures are from the movie and they’re all great. Abraham Lincoln? Panda Suit guy? Crazy hillbilly robot thingy? Awesome.

Besides the minifigures, there are going to be 17 sets based on the movie, and they look like so much fun. You can see them all over at Euro Bricks, but here are a couple of my favorites.

Marvel Takes the MCU to Another Level with ‘Thor: The Dark World’

Thor 2

Disclaimer: I’ve had a few drinks and I just finished rebuilding the site, so this post may ramble on a lot longer than it should. Feel free to make fun of me in the comments.

This past Thursday night the wife and I saw Thor: The Dark World after months of anticipation. Unlike a lot (seemingly) of my fellow Marvel movie buffs, I really really like the first Thor. Compared to an Iron Man or a Captain America, Thor and the concept of the nine realms was the trickiest thing Marvel had to try and introduce to the general movie-going crowd, and I feel like they handled it very well. Fast forward a couple years, and in my opinion, the sequel takes the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe to another level. I loved it, and it just makes me more excited for the expansion of the MCU.

The Slow Build

When you look at the MCU starting form Iron Man in 2008, you can start to realize the genius behind their whole strategy. They started with concepts that weren’t that hard to buy into. Tony Stark is a brilliant dude, he builds a suit that lets him become a superhero. I can buy that. Then they threw in that post-credits scene with Nick Fury and set this years-long expansion in motion.

Unlike Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk, Thor had to work in order to set up The Avengers. Whether or not you like the first Thor film as much as I do, you have to admit that they succeeded in selling the concept. People love Loki. People get that there are different realms, that Thor and his Asgardian bros aren’t gods, but more like aliens. This let us believe in the power of the Cosmic Cube that the Red Skull harnesses in Captain America, and the madness that Loki unleashes in The Avengers. Smart guy in metal suit to full-scale alien invasion in just four years. That’s impressive.

The New TMNT ‘Ninjas in Training’ Are Adorable

Ninjas in Training

It’s no secret that I love the new Nickelodeon TMNT action figures. I’ve been trying to keep up with all the awesome figures that have been coming out over the past year or so, and from the villains to the main figures I’ve been super impressed. Recently Playmates released a new batch of figures that contain what could be the cutest Ninja Turtles ever relased: Ninjas in Training.

Released as two separate packs (kind of lame, but whatever), these ‘Lil Turtles are short, stocky, and outfitted with wooden training weapons. Seeing as how I totally skipped the 2K TMNT show and missed out on the Toddler Turtles (read this and this), I’m excited to finally be able to own baby versions of the Turtles.

My first idea after successfully tracking down both sets was to put them in front of the Muppet Babies ColorForms set I have and post it to Instagram because I’m a big dork.
