Brave: 5-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Review

Brave Blu-ray

Even though Pixar’s Golden Age may have ended with Toy Story 3 (in my opinion), I’m still a hardcore fan and get giddy with the thought of new movies from the studio. However, Cars 2 was the first Pixar movie I genuinely disliked, and so I was more than ready to wash that taste out of my mouth and hoped Brave would accomplish that.

While it wasn’t as great as I was hoping it would be, Brave is still a fun movie and more than made up for the turd that was Cars 2. When the 5-disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition showed up on my doorstep, I was excited to check out the movie again, and I think I liked it better the second time around.

Missing Links

The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Sequel: Casting Harry Osborn
Wow, Paul Dano is a brilliant choice to play the new Harry Osborn, but I’m sure it’ll end up being some young whipper-snapper that I’ve never heard of.

Frankenweenie is ‘good Tim Burton’, which as it turns out still exists
I still need to see Frankenweenie, and this write-up from Ultra Culture makes me want to see it even more. I'm glad 'Good Time Burton' is back.

Yet another reason why I love Gravity Falls – Boing Boing
I'm too lazy to crack ciphers, but this is one of the reasons I love this show too.

Adventure Time‘s Genderswapped Universe Is Getting Its Own Comic Series by Natasha Allegri!
Fiona and Cake, the comic book? Awesome.

Blue Sky to produce Charlie Brown feature | Cartoon Brew
So glad to see the Peanuts going with an animation company like Blue Sky instead of Dreamworks. It sounds like these characters are in the right hands. I hope they don't look too weird in CG though.

Website Launched For ‘Monsters University,’ The College | /Film
This is awesome. I can't wait for Monsters University, and as a web designer I would have loved to work on this project. Pixar launched a fake website for the college Mike and Sully will be attending in the upcoming sequel. Heads up, you can actually order the merchandise.

‘Toy Story of Terror’ TV Special Coming Next Year

Toy Story of Terror

With a perfect trilogy of movies and a handful of charming animated shorts under their belt, the Toy Story gang will be making the transition to TV Special territory next year with Toy Story of Terror. I think TV Specials are a great idea for this group of characters, and I’m excited to see them tackling Halloween first. Here’s the official synopsis:

What starts out as a fun road trip for the Toy Story gang takes an unexpected turn for the worse when the trip detours to a roadside motel. After one of the toys goes missing, the others find themselves caught up in a mysterious sequence of events that must be solved before they all suffer the same fate in this Toy Story of Terror.

I don’t know who’s directing this, but Lee Unkrich is a self-proclaimed The Shining junkie, so it sounds like he was involved to some extent. Regardless, I’ll be tuning in this time next year to check it out.

Yes Virginia, there is a perfect super hero trilogy: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ | ShezCrafti
Jaime over at Shezcrafti wrote up a nice (and spoiler-free) review of The Dark Knight Rises. I'm going to be a day or so late to this party, but I can't wait to see it.

TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman is loving Michael Bay’s movie – will fans? – Boing Boing
Even though I consider myself pretty hardcore when it comes to TMNT, I don't have a problem with them ditching the mutant aspect. Face it, they don't look that much like turtles anyway.

Pixar Is Making “Finding Nemo 2″ | Cartoon Brew
Interesting. So Disney is kind of forcing Andrew Stanton to direct Finding Nemo 2 before they'll let him make any more live action movies? It's a bummer that John Carter didn't do better in the box office.

Here’s the Opening of Nickelodeon’s TMNT Reboot! | ShezCrafti
They're kind of using the old theme song! Awesome. This show looks like a lot of fun.

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Footage – Disney’s Video Game Movie Just Looks Better and Better [Comic-Con 2012] | /Film
Just when I didn't think I could be more excited about 'Wreck-it Ralph'…

The League of Extraordinary Bloggers
This post is part of The League of Extraordinary Bloggers, a weekly series of blog posts started by Brian over at Cool and Collected. Make sure to check out his site and join in the conversation if you run a blog!

This week’s challenge over on The League asks:

What movie, TV show, book, etc. turns you into a blubbering baby every time you see it?

If this post was written by my wife, the title would be Anything, Especially if it Involves Animals. For me, it takes a bit more to get the tears flowing. You know, things like Maximus dying at the end of Gladiator or the Iron Giant saying Superman before sacrificing himself to save Hogarth. The movie that takes the cake for me when it comes bringing on the waterworks, though, is Pixar’s Up.
