SDCC 2012: Awesome LEGO Super Heroes Update

Posted 8 years ago by Toys

LEGO

I guess I ran my SDCC LEGO Roundup too soon, because FBTB is reporting on the new LEGO Super Hero minifigures for the upcoming year, and they’re pretty awesome. The photos seem to confirm that there will actually be sets based on The Dark Knight Rises after all! LEGO Gary Oldman!

On the DC side, there is Mr. Freeze, Aquaman, Batman in a white suit (for some reason), Bane, Gordon, Badass Robin with a hood, Scarecrow, The Joker in an orange jumpsuit, Penguin, and a nurse or something.

For Marvel, it looks like we’re getting Spider-Man, Nick Fury, Venom, Nova, J. Jonah Jameson, Dr. Doom, and Beetle. Not bad, but I wonder how they are going to use Dr. Doom without the Fantastic Four? And hopefully Nick Fury means more Avengers sets, but he could be included in a Spider-Man set since that line is based on the new show.

Make sure to check out FBTB for all the large photos, and let the speculation on the sets these are going to come with begin!

Will Arnett is (LEGO) Batman

Will Arnett is Batman

Did you know there is going to be a LEGO movie? You didn’t? Well, there is, and it’s being made by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street. The big news today is that LEGO versions of Batman and Superman will appear in that film, but I extracted a much more awesome headline out of that story.

Will Arnett is going to voice LEGO Batman. If this isn’t the best idea in the history of pretty great ideas I don’t know what is. If you’re a fan of Arrested Development or just Will Arnett in general, chances are you’re a fan of Batman and LEGO too, and if not, hearing Arnett voice LEGO Batman on the big screen will surely change your mind.

I’m pumped for this movie. Variety has a quick description of the plot, which revolves arond a generic LEGO character (well, it worked for The Muppets), voiced by Chris Pratt.

Pratt will play Emmet, an ordinary, law-abiding, rules-following, perfectly average Lego mini-figure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary MasterBuilder. He’s drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

Count me in. I’m sure since this is a WB production we’ll only see the DC superheroes, but I’m fine with that. The working title is LEGO: The Piece of Resistance, but I wouldn’t put too much money on that not changing before the release date in 2014.

Missing Links

The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

A.I.M. Terrorist Group To Appear In IRON MAN 3?
We can only hope A.I.M. is going to be in Iron Man 3 so that we can get some MODOK in Captain America 2. Hey, a geek can hope!

Toyriffic: Kenner Super Powers Batmobile
Very cool vintage Batmobile toy profiled over at Toyriffic. I'd love to snag one of these somewhere.

Do Fire Flowers Still Work In This Awesome Super Mario Aquarium?
Incredible Super Mario-themed Aquarium, but come one, how could they pass up recreating the swimming level instead of the first world?

Finding Nemo Blu-ray Finally Set for December 4th! | Pixar Talk
I've always thought 'Nemo' was going to be the best-looking Blu-ray once it was released. I can't wait to see this movie in HD for the first time.

Power Attack Batman and Robin Review

Batman and Robin

I may not be a hardcore toy collector, but I like to think I have a vague awareness of the current toy lines on store shelves, especially with big characters like super heroes and Star Wars. Usually I duck into toy aisles when my wife and I are out getting groceries (“I just need to look at something real quick..it’s for my blog!”), but until I read a post on Battle Grip I was not aware of the new Batman Power Attack line of action figures.

The Power Attack series features the cutesy, bulky style of cartoon-themed toy lines and more kid-centric lines like Imaginext but stretched out to 6″ scale, and the results are surprisingly awesome. After Philip’s first post got me interested, he went on to review some of the more colorful versions of Batman and I knew I needed to pick up a few of these figures.

I picked up the two normal looking figures in the line, Battle Gauntlet Batman and Strike Shield Robin. Since I was a kid I was always confused by the multi-colored versions of Batman and this line features plenty of those. Some of them actually look pretty cool, but I tend to stick with blue, grey, and black versions of the Caped Crusader.

ALF Movie in the Works? Maybe | /Film
For one reason or another, I haven’t written about Alf much on the site, but I love Alf. I still watch it occasionally and find it to be pretty funny still, and I’ve been patiently waiting until Gordon Shumway makes his way to the big screen. Plus, I’ve been wondering what Paul Fusco has been up to since the Alf days. I’d go see an Alf movie. Would you?

How Does THE DARK KNIGHT RISES End and Where Will BATMAN Begin Again?
I agree, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Batman dies at the end of TDKR. Think about it, Nolan’s Batman seems like a temporary hero, not a long term solution to Gotham’s problems. They’ve been marketing TDKR with phrases like The Epic Conclusion and The Legend Ends, almost like they’re preparing audiences for the possibility.

3D Simpsons Short Starring Maggie Simpson In Front Of “Ice Age 4″
I have no interest in seeing an Ice Age movie again, but seeing a Simpsons short film might be worth the price of admission. I’m still bummed I didn’t get to see the Simpsons Movie on the big screen, but seeing a short might help numb the pain.

Pixar’s “The Avengers”
What the Avengers would look like if they were Pixar characters. Some interesting choices here, but you have to love Sully as Hulk.
