Yesterday I launched the newest (and hopefully improved) design for Saturday Morning Central. December 14th was kind of an important day for the site because it marked the one year anniversary of what I like to call SMC Prime, or, the not-launching-the-site-and-only-running-it-for-a-month version.

I try not to post stuff like this unless it’s really awesome. Some enterprising individuals decided to recreate the bullet-time sequence from the Matrix in stop motion with LEGO, and they did a bang-up job.

Thanks to Payless shoes, you can now get a double dose of nostalgia on your feet with these new Airwalk Star Trek sneakers. Remember Airwalks? They were huge when I was in elementary school, and I’ll admit, I had a few pairs.
I never had any this geeky though. Available in three colors (including expendable red), the high-tops sport the Star Trek insignia on the laces. They’re available for a limited time, and they’re $50, so which color will you be buying?
The only thing better than commissioned art is free commissioned art. Lucky for us, an enterprising artist named Ali Spagnola has been giving away a painting a day for the last couple years. She is just about to finish her 1000th painting, and is in need of more requests.
I heard about this project towards the beginning and requested a guitar painting, and got it a few months later. The wait should be a little shorter now if you email her soon. I told my sister about this a couple years ago and my Star Wars-loving nieces requested a Darth Vader painting, and Ali didn’t disappoint.

This news is getting posted everywhere today, and I would have posted it earlier if I would have understood it the first time.
Fresh out of Reuters is news that Nickelodeon has acquired the global rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise from Mirage and 4Kids for $60 Million. The release mentions a new CG television series and movie, and when I first read it I thought that was all they had the rights for.
I didn’t realize that they bought the whole package, including toy and merchandise rights. I guess this is a big deal for TMNT fans, but honestly, I think Nick will handle the franchise well. I must admit, I’ve been less than amazed at Mirage’s “huge” 25th Anniversary Shellabration. If anything, it will be nice to see some talent behind TMNT marketing.
