Missing Links

The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

We can only hope A.I.M. is going to be in Iron Man 3 so that we can get some MODOK in Captain America 2. Hey, a geek can hope!

I've always thought 'Nemo' was going to be the best-looking Blu-ray once it was released. I can't wait to see this movie in HD for the first time.

‘Wreck-it Ralph’ Trailer

Posted 8 years ago by Movies

Ok, I’m officially pumped about this movie guys. We talked about Wreck-it Ralph way back on the second episode of Bubble Pipe Theater, and now we finally have a trailer for the film, which opens November 2nd. I would be on board with an animated movie about an 8-bit villain trying to reinvent himself by diving into some other video games even if it didn’t have actual video game characters in it.

If you watch the trailer, you’ll see Bowser, Dr. Robotnik, Zangief, a Pac-Man Ghost, Q-Bert, M. Bison, Kano from Mortal Kombat, and a lot more. Ralph is voiced by John C. Reilly, and the character design looks great. I’m so glad this film looks fun even without the retro game cameos. It looks like Ralph makes his way to a Candyland-inspired game, featuring Sarah Silverman as a cute and annoying little girl, and then into a Halo-inspired shooter with Jane Lynch as a soldier. Perfect casting.

What did you think of the trailer?

Power Attack Batman and Robin Review

Batman and Robin

I may not be a hardcore toy collector, but I like to think I have a vague awareness of the current toy lines on store shelves, especially with big characters like super heroes and Star Wars. Usually I duck into toy aisles when my wife and I are out getting groceries (“I just need to look at something real quick..it’s for my blog!”), but until I read a post on Battle Grip I was not aware of the new Batman Power Attack line of action figures.

The Power Attack series features the cutesy, bulky style of cartoon-themed toy lines and more kid-centric lines like Imaginext but stretched out to 6″ scale, and the results are surprisingly awesome. After Philip’s first post got me interested, he went on to review some of the more colorful versions of Batman and I knew I needed to pick up a few of these figures.

I picked up the two normal looking figures in the line, Battle Gauntlet Batman and Strike Shield Robin. Since I was a kid I was always confused by the multi-colored versions of Batman and this line features plenty of those. Some of them actually look pretty cool, but I tend to stick with blue, grey, and black versions of the Caped Crusader.

Book Review: The Art of Luke Chueh: Bearing the Unbearable

Posted 8 years ago by Art, Books

As a critic, I’m supposed to offer my unbiased opinion on a piece of media that I’ve been given. I’m supposed to set aside my own personal preferences and examine art – whether it be a cheesy 1980s TV series or an Oscar-winning modern classic – without letting my feelings interfere with my final verdict.

Well, I’m afraid I just can’t do that in this case.

Because, you see, I’ve been a fan of Luke Chueh’s artwork since my then-girlfriend-now-wife turned me on to it in 2005. She had seen his paintings online and instantly fell in love with them. I had a similar experience when she showed me his website, and I saw for the first time his unique style, motifs, and message.

Chueh’s art is almost always described using the same adjectives and phrases – “cute, but dark”, “adorable, but sad”, “funny, but deep” – and even though these have become cliché at this point, that doesn’t mean they aren’t true. Much of Chueh’s work features animals that look like costumed out-of-work actors on their way to a kid’s backyard birthday party, ready to snap a photo with a group of seven year-olds because it’s the only gig they can get.

Cool Stuff: Captain America Reebok Shoes

Marvel Reeboks

Whenever real life intrudes on my blogging time like it did last week (yay for funerals!), I always come back home to an email inbox full of starred items from my RSS feeds, favorite tweets, and URLs to check out. Last week I found all kinds of awesome stuff online, but these new Marvel Reebok shoes may take the cake.

Marvel is collaborating with Reebok on a whole line of shoes inspired by their comic characters. Sneakers inspired by Wolverine, Sabertooth, Spider-man, Deadpool, Black Widow, and my favorite, Captain America, are going to be coming out sometime soon and will no doubt be very expensive.

Most of them are ugly as sin, but being a sucker for Reebok classics and primary colors, I think I’m going to seriously keep an eye out for the Captain America shoes.

You can check out SlashFilm for more photos, and hopefully we’ll find out more details like release date and pricing sometime soon.
