LEGO TMNT Sets Available on December 17th

Kraang Lab Escape

Well, it looks like Christmas is coming early this year. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle LEGO sets we’ve been drooling over for the past few months are going to be available on LEGO’s Shop@Home site starting on December 17th. That doesn’t leave much time to get them to your door before Christmas, but LEGO’s fastest (and expensive) shipping option might do the trick.

I’ve got some nephews who would be insanely pumped if they got some of the TMNT LEGO sets I’ve been telling them about in time for the holidays. I don’t blame them, so would I!

The pages are already up on LEGO’s site. Here are links, along with prices and which Turtles come in each set.

I plan on getting all of these sets, but if you’re just looking to snag the four Turtles, it looks like your cheapest bet is go get the Turtle Lair Attack, Shredder’s Dragon Bike, and Kraang Lab Escape sets for a total of about $88.

So, are you planning on getting any of these sets?

The Empire Strikes Back with Toys: Interview with Instagrammer Bobby Sussman

The Empire Strikes Back with Toys: An Interview with Bobby Sussman

As toy fans, there’s something magical about constructing dioramas. We arrange our precious collectibles in such a way to tell a story or simply showcase them. Often they’re done for our own enjoyment but all fans can appreciate the really elaborate creations. I used to think I had a knack for building such scenes. After stumbling upon the work of artist Bobby Sussman, I can easily say he’s a master at this toy-based specialty.

For almost a full year Bobby has been recreating the 1980 Star Wars film The Empire Strikes Back with action figures and handmade sets. He then captures the scenes with his trusty iPhone 4s and posts the photo collages to Instagram. I caught up with Bobby via email for an interview about his process and the inspiration behind this project.

Geek Gift Guide: Books

The holidays are upon us, and even though you’re probably being flooded with gift guides, we here at the ‘squatch wanted to add some products that we think are awesome to your radar, whether you’re actually looking for gifts for people or you just troll gift guides looking for cool stuff for yourself. Don’t worry, I do that too.

This year we’re dividing our gift guides up by category, and we’re starting with a Christmas standard: Books. For some reason there are always a few books I want every year, and I don’t like buying them for myself very often so I put them on wishlists. There is no shortage of awesome, geeky books this year, but here are a few standouts that would make great gifts.

You Had Me At ‘Hobbit Moleskine Notebooks’

Hobbit Moleskines

Seriously, Moleskine, just shut up and take my money. As a guy who spends way too much time in front of screens I tend to enjoy things like paper and pens whenever I can. I’ve usually always got a Moleskine notebook with me, but I’ve yet to pull the trigger on any of the licensed variety. It’s not that I didn’t love the Star Wars and LEGO notebooks, but I just didn’t have to have them.

However, I need these Hobbit inspired notebooks pretty bad. They come in brownish and redish varieties complete with awesome Tolkieny embossed illustrations and fold-out maps. I’m sure they’ll make you look like a huge nerd when you’re sitting at Starbucks taking notes, but I don’t care, I want ’em.

Check out the page on Moleskine’s website to learn more. They’re available to buy in a few places, but why not get them from ThinkGeek and build up points?

Between these and my Tolkien/Calvin & Hobbes Mashup t-shirt, I think I’m ready to see The Hobbit.

What Are The Best Sega Genesis Games?

Posted 8 years ago by Games

The Sega Genesis stands as one of the all-time best video game systems. Don’t believe me? IGN ranked it number five in its countdown of the 25 best. PC Mag picked it number four. Only the almighty Nintendo Entertainment System, Sony PlayStation 2, and Atari 2600 outweigh Genesis’ cultural and commercial significance.

Sega Genesis (a.k.a. Sega Mega Drive outside North America) was introduced in 1997 and sold around 40 million units in its lifetime. It even spawned two mildly successful add-ons, Sega CD and 32X, as well as the Sega Nomad handheld player. There was even a Sega Channel offered by some cable TV companies that would download games to your system.

The console is often compared to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System but Nintendo’s 16 bit game was introduced a full two years after the Genesis. Even at the height of the battle between these two legendary systems, Genesis/Mega Drive was able to maintain a lead in most markets.
