Odin is Ready for his Close-Up

On the heels of SDCC 2010, we’re already getting a lot of sneak peeks at the geeky goodness that will be flaunted at this year’s convention. Marvel’s upcoming Thor movie by Kenneth Branagh is one I’m very interested in. Not because I’m a huge Thor aficionado, but because I’m curious as to how they will pull it off and make it look like a part of the modern Marvel movie universe. I’ve been pretty impressed with the glimpses we’ve had of Thor so far, and now we get our first look at Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

I like the direction they’re taking with these costumes, and I can’t wait to see the sets and production design that will accompany them.

First Impressions: Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern

Posted 10 years ago by Movies

At first I hated the thought of a CG costume, but this new photo of Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern has me very intrigued. I love how it looks alien, and I think the CG may actually be a great idea for this particular superhero movie. Green Lantern, like the upcoming Thor, will be a bit of a departure from the average moviegoer’s idea of a modern superhero movie, so lets hope they get it right.

Hasbro’s SDCC 2010 Exclusives

Posted 10 years ago by Toys

If you’re lucky enough to be able to attend SDCC this year, here is a heads up on some of Hasbro’s exclusive toys. I don’t know what I’d do with myself at an event that huge, but I’m sure I would want to spend way more money than I would have. Hell, I’d go just to get this Super Hero Squad Show exclusive featuring the mayor of Superhero City and Dr. Doom in his jammies.

Watch This: Hair-Raising Hare (1946)

Posted 10 years ago by Animated Shorts

In light of yesterday’s review of The 100 Greatest Looney Tunes book, I’ve decided to bring the Watch This! series back from the dead with the classic Looney Tunes short, Hair-Raising Hare. I grew up watching this short over and over at my Grandparent’s house and any time it was on TV. Luckily, it’s in the one Looney Tunes Golden Collection DVD I own, so I still watch it every once in a while. And of course, it’s on YouTube, so why don’t you slack off at work for a few minutes and enjoy?

100 Greatest Looney Tunes Book Review

Posted 10 years ago by Books

When choosing topics to write about here, I usually cross my fingers and hope that you all are at least somewhat interested in it before I hit the publish button. Luckily, I don’t think I have to worry about that when I’m talking about Looney Tunes. Who doesn’t love Looney Tunes?

The 100 Greatest Looney Tunes is a new book by animation historian Jerry Beck, and he definitely loves Looney Tunes. Jerry is the co-author of the website Cartoon Brew, animation consultant on a lot of the DVDs I review here, and author of more than 12 books. I’ve always been a big animation history fan and love reading his books and listening to his commentaries.
