Forget True Grit, I’m Looking for Someone with Blingatude

Posted 10 years ago by Videos

What’s the opposite of True Grit, the quality that Mattie Ross was looking for and found in US Marshall Rooster Cogburn? I didn’t know before today, but now I do; it’s Blingatude. In case you’re lost, that’s True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld in her pre-Jeff Bridges days, hawking goods for K-Mart.

I’m pretty sure this commercial wasn’t directed by the Coen Brothers, but we won’t hold that against you, Hailee.

Get Your Daily Trivia Fix With QRANK

Posted 10 years ago by Games

Geeks and trivia go hand in hand. Something about obsessing over details more than the average person.

The new social trivia challenge QRANK gives you a venue to show off your geekly prowess. The game can be accessed two ways: via a free iPhone/iPod touch app or Facebook application. Either means gives you equal gameplay.

In QRANK you are presented with a gameboard of 20 tiles representing the four categories du jour. The possible subjects include Science & Nature, Literature, Sports, History & Place, Business & Government, Life, and—my favorite—Entertainment. You select 10 questions to answer in your daily session. Points for each question start at 200, 400, and 1000, depending on difficulty. Point values rapidly decline the longer you wait to answer. To sweeten the pot, there also randomly placed 2X and 3X bonuses.

Iotacons by Andy Rash

iotacons

We love us some pixel art around here, and Andy Rash is getting a lot of buzz around the net with his Iotacons, and rightly so. Spoiler: they’re awesome. Andy has this to say about his low-rez creations:

Iotacons are extremely low resolution portraits. They are so different from my regular style that I thought I’d better give them a separate home.

He’s covered everything from the Senate, to Sacha Baron Cohen, and even the cast of MST3K. I can’t wait to see what else he churns out.
