Bambi Blu-ray Review

Bambi

I always had a hard time deciding how I felt about Walt Disney’s 1942 film Bambi. I remembered watching it as a kid, but that’s not always the best judge of how good something is, so a few years ago I rewatched it. Even though I was in the middle of a geeking-out-about-animation-history phase I went through, I wrote Bambi off as boring.

It’s still not a Disney movie I can watch as often as others, but at least I’ve come to a better understanding of it as a work of art. I lump Bambi in the same category as Fantasia, more on the poetic side; something to sit and ponder while I’m wearing my smoking jacket and puffing my bubble pipe until I give up and decide to play Nintendo.

March MODOK Madness

Posted 9 years ago by Art, Comics

I used to get up for the grand spectacle that is the NCAA College Basketball tournament. Now I’d much rather fill my bracket with all the great submissions at March MODOK Madness.

The illustration blog celebrates one of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee’s lesser-known creations. MODOK, which stands for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing, never really got the respect he deserved. That is, until now. The blog posts numerous drawings of the super villain, by both amateurs and professionals, each day in March.

Lots of artists are taking creative spins on the character. Be sure to check out Modork by Doug Slack, Mohair by Sean Bieri, the Mental Organism Designed Only for Kuddling by Mr. Mr., and my personal favorite, Garrett Hagen’s MODUNK.

New ‘Super 8’ Trailer Brings Amblin Back

Posted 9 years ago by Movies

Even though this film will be lost on the the average Johnny-loves-Transformers this summer movie season, Super 8 looks like it’s on track to be the best genre film of the year. The J.J. Abrams directed, Spielberg influenced and produced movie appears to channel the classic 80’s Amblin movies we all grew up with.

If so, that means we can expect a great character-driven story taking place in Everytown, USA, and most importantly, children casually swearing, which I think we can all agree has been lacking in the cinema of late.

This trailer is showing before Battle: Los Angeles tonight (which I hope is good), and I can’t wait to see it on a big screen.

Nickelodeon’s TMNT Details!

TMNT

Good news TMNT fans, Nickelodeon is finally letting some details out regarding their new CG TV series. Ninja Pizza has the scoop and the teaser video (which I couldn’t embed for some reason), so head over there to get your turtle fix! It’s hard to tell much from the teaser, but I like the character design. I’m still just crossing my fingers that we’ll get to see Bebop, Rocksteady, and Krang again. Oh, and Ace Duck.

(Almost) Shirt of the Day: It’s Dangerous to Go Alone

It's Dangerous to Go Alone by kerTrek

Everyone loves a good mash-up. You make two great things exponentially greater by combining them. Especially when those two things are Star Wars and Zelda.

That’s what Deviantart member kerTrek did with this fabulous design. Luke and Obi-wan star in this 8-bit graphic creation along with the iconic line from the original Legend of Zelda game.

The only problem with this design is that it’s not officially a shirt yet. kerTrek has submitted it to TeeFury so we’ll have to wait for its eventual release. It’s our only hope.
