Tom and Jerry’s Greatest Chases Vol. 3 Review
Posted 11 years ago by Tommy Animated Shorts
More Tom and Jerry DVDs! Sometime I need to try and capture on video the typical reaction someone has to seeing my DVD collection. At first it looks like the collection of someone who has lots of kids to keep entertained…but we don’t have any kids yet. Basically, about 90% of our DVD and Blu-ray collection consists of cartoons, and when it comes to classic animation, I can’t get enough.
Thats why I’m excited to see more sets like these. Tom and Jerry’s Greatest Chases Volume 3 is the newest addition to my collection, and it contains 14 classic cartoons. They were originally released between 1941 to 1956, and include:
- The Two Mousketeers (1952) – Academy Award Winner
- Touche Pussycat (1954) – Academy Award nominee
- Smitten Kitten (1952)
- Designs on Jerry (1952)
- The Pecos Pest (1955)
- The Flying Sorceress (1956) – Features world-class voice over artist, June Foray
- Blue Cat Blues (1956)
- Puttin’ on the Dog (1944)
- Fine Feathered Friend (1942)
- The Bowling Alley Cat (1942)
- The Night Before Christmas (1941)
- Cat Napping (1951)
- The Flying Cat (1952)
- Baby Butch (1954)
There are some real gems on this set, including The Two Mousketeers, which started the short Musketeers meme that ran through a few shorts in the Tom and Jerry timeline. It’s also always fun to hear June Foray voicing characters. In The Flying Sorceress she voices a character much like her Witch Hazel in the Looney Tunes shorts.
If you’re like me and you missed out on the Spotlight Collections, this is a good way to get a good helping of classic Tom and Jerry for a lot cheaper.
While it would be nice to have all these shorts in one volume, with over 100 Tom and Jerry cartoons that would be pretty hard for Warner Bros. to pull off. These DVD sets keep the prices down and get these classic shorts in front of kids who probably haven’t seen them before, and that’s alright with me.
