This is a solid list of SNES games that should be included on the eventual SNES Classic Mini. I would add E.V.O. The Search for Eden and Super Mario All-Stars, but that’s just my opinion.

This is great news. His score for Dr. Strange was great, and I hope Marvel lets him cut loose for Spider-Man and really write a great theme for the webslinger.

If you grew up in the late 80s/early 90s, chances are you played Shaq-Fu, the horrible Sega Genesis and SNES game featuring Shaq doing kung-fu. Well, someone thought it was a good idea to make a sequel, and Shaq is hoping people will chip in $450,000 on IndieGoGo to get it made. If that’s not hilarious enough, check out some of the rewards. $500 will get Shaq to follow you on Instagram, while a grand will get him to follow you on Twitter. For $150 you can record a line that will be in the game (admittedly not a bad deal), and for $400 you can attend a launch party in New York.

I was digging through stuff at my Grandpa’s house last weekend to see if there was anything I found sentimental and wanted to keep (he didn’t die, he’s just moving to a retirement home), and among the old photos, fishing paraphernalia, and random mothball-scented things, I found a 1993 Sears Catalog. I spotted it from a mile away and almost knocked my sister over who was looking through our Grandmother’s Christmas decorations trying to get to it.

Unfortunately it wasn’t a Christmas catalog. If it was, I would have snatched the whole thing and spent hours (days?) scanning the entire toy section. Alas, this was just a regular-type catalog which meant no toys. However, I remembered that even these boring catalogs still usually had video game sections and I quickly flipped past the pages of clothes, exercise equipment, and antique-looking computers to find them. I wasn’t disappointed.

If you’re interested in geek art, you have probably seen some of the awesome work from Signalnoise (aka James White). I’ve been following James on Instagram for a long time, and have always been a fan of his art. Checking out his poster designs for Terminator 2 and The Thing will give you a good sense of his style.

Over the last couple days, James has been Instagramming some very cool illustrations of vintage video game consoles, and today he posted them all on his blog. He illustrated the iconic designs of the Atari 2600, NES, Game Boy, NES Zapper, Super Nintendo’s controller, and the Commodore 64. They’re all great and I’d love to have them all as prints in my office.

I hope James continues with these illustrations, especially if it means seeing some Sega hardware. I’m sure his take on the Genesis would be awesome.

If there’s one thing the Internet is great for, it’s benefiting from other people’s hard work. If you’re wondering what kind of car to get, which dog breed would be best for your tiny apartment, or what the worst Land Before Time Movie is (actual search query that led someone here), chances are at least a bzillion people have wrote about their experiences online.

When news broke about iOS 6 being jailbroken yesterday, I didn’t pay much attention to the headlines. I toyed around with Jailbreaking a few years ago when I had an old-school iPhone 3G, but since then iOS has improved so much I haven’t felt the need. Until I realized I could play retro games on my new iPad Mini, that is.

I don’t much like the idea of messing with my phone when it’s the device that I need to be able to use to call 911 and order pizzas and such. But now I have a second iOS device that isn’t a phone and when I started thinking about playing Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and NES games on it, I got a little giddy. So, I did some quick research, found plenty of other people who had figured out the hard stuff already, and now I have a jailbroken iPad Mini loaded with ROMs that I can pair with a Wiimote.

Hopefully by sharing my resources and explaining what I did I can help you out in case you’re even lazier than me, and perhaps feel like I’m contributing a little Karma to the web in some tiny way. Just remember, if you’re doing this to your phone, as of a few days ago it’s kind of illegal, but whatever. So is playing games via emulators.
