First Look at Roseanne’s ‘Kraang Prime’ TMNT Character

The Nickelodeon TMNT show has been on hiatus for a while, but this behind-the-scenes video is hyping the finale of the series, so hopefully that means it will be back on track soon. This extremely cheesy video from Nick features “Noah and Gabby” hamming it up with an uncomfortable-looking Ciro Nieli to look at the upcoming hour-long special that will introduce Roseanne’s (apparently male) Kraang Prime character.

Her voice isn’t at all what I expected, but since it’s Roseanne I’m sure she’ll get a little more animated than that. TMNT geeks online are speculating that Kraang Prime is going to be the Nick series’ answer to OT Krang, and I really hope so. I think “The Kraang” should take a backseat in season 2 and leave Kraang Prime and Shredder as the main baddies. Oh, and the Technodrome, they definitely need to bring back the Technodrome.

In other TMNT news, did you hear that Mos Def is going to play Baxter Stockman in the new TMNT movie? Even though I still don’t care about that movie, but you have to admit, that’s an awesome bit of casting.

What I’ve Been Watching #1

What I've Been Watching

I’ve seen posts like this on a few blogs I read regularly, so thought I would start occasionally mentioning what random movies and TV shows I’ve been watching. If nothing else, you may find something to put in your Netflix queue or you may think of something to recommend to me. I’m going to just number these posts sequentially so I don’t have to think of clever titles each time, because lazy.

Take Shelter – Amazon/Netflix

It may be the anticipation of seeing him portray General Zod in the upcoming Superman flick Man of Steel, but I’ve been on a big Michael Shannon kick lately. That dude is intense, and reminds me of the kind of kid that was held back a few times in High School but always gets put on your team in gym class and scares the shit out of you.

In Take Shelter, Shannon plays a Dad and husband to Jessica Zero-Dark-Thirty Chastain who is plagued with nightmares about apocolytpic storms and starts building a storm shelter in his backyard. He worries he’s going crazy, and the whole movie is done in this very subtle way and it was very cool. Shannon plays a quiet, subdued, average guy, and that makes you hang on every word he says. If you like psychological thrillers, you should definitely check it out.

Roseanne is ‘Kraang Prime’

Kraang Prime

Well, this is awesome news. I was already looking forward to Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles returning on January 25th, but now I’m even more excited. TV Guide is reporting that everyone’s favorite TV mom, Roseanne Barr, is going to be a guest star in the season finale of TMNT. The coolest part is who she is playing. Get this: her character’s name is Kraang Prime.

This timing couldn’t be any better. My wife and I recently started watching Roseanne after randomly wondering if the show would still be funny having not seen it since we were younger. We got some discs from Netflix and realized that it is even funnier than it was when we were kids, and we’re hooked. Once you get past the hair and the clothes the show is pretty timeless, and is still really funny. We’re also super into the new TMNT cartoon, so you can see why I’m so excited about this.

I also had a feeling that the whole collective brain vibe the Kraang had going on would lead to some kind of Queen or big Kraang at some point, and this pretty much confirms it. A big, obnoxious Kraang voiced by Roseanne sounds awesome, and I can’t wait for the finale.

With new toys and merchandise hitting stores while the current stuff is still selling out like crazy and new episodes of the show airing soon, it’s a great time to be a TMNT fan.
