Now that I finally updated my Mac to Mountain Lion and got my POS scanner working, I thought it would a perfect time to introduce a new series on the ‘squatch: Action Figure Cards. 80s and 90s packaging in general gets me super nostalgic, and that definitely goes double for action figures.
As you can probably guess, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures had my favorite card designs. The first one I grabbed off my stack is from one of my favorite TMNT villain figures: Super Shredder. Super Shredder briefly appeared in TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze after Regular-Type Shredderâ„¢ made a bad life decision and chugged a canister of ooze.
He looked badass in the movie and as a kid I lamented the fact that he only existed as Super Shredder for a couple of minutes. Luckily, they made him into an action figure.
I love how the Ooze doesn’t discriminate between organic material and clothes/armor. Rather than Super Shredder just busting out of his clothes, they mutated with him and became more awesome. Where can I get some of that stuff?
The Super Shredder action figure looks pretty much like he does in the movie, only a big shorter. Also, you have to love the language on that character bio, espeically since it mentions the Turtles will have to stab him.
Here are some high-res scans of the front and back of Super Shredder’s card. The front is a little jacked up, but the back is in good shape. I love the later TMNT figures that had such full rosters on the back. It really shows how huge this toy line was.
I love the descriptions for his accessories. His belt “makes him look really cool” and his staff is “pure evil in stick form!” Where can I get a job writing stuff like that?
Random Super Shredder fact: there was a rare all-black version you could get by mailing in 20 proofs of purchases from Chef Boyardee’s Turtle Pasta. That’s a lot of pasta.
Were you a fan of Super Shredder? Which figures on the back of his card did you have?
