Here’s the ‘Star Wars Episode VII’ Cast

Star Wars VII Cast

After months and months (and months) of speculation, some really for real news has finally come out about Star Wars Episode VII: Take All My Money (working title). Lucasfilm/Disney just announced the cast, and it’s looking pretty great. First off, let me get this out of my system:

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

A lot about this announcement is exciting. First off, I’m actually glad that no huge names like Benedict Cumberbatch are attached. I would not have been able to watch him in a Star Wars movie without thinking of all his other roles. Maybe he’ll be in a later installment and blow me away, but for now I’m happy with this cast.

John Boyega (who, at the moment, has under 5K Twitter followers, let’s see how that changes over the next few days) was amazing in Attack the Block and I’m looking forward to seeing him in the Star Wars universe.

Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac were both in the awesome Inside Llewyn Davis and from what I’ve heard are pretty great in everything else they’re in. Isaac’s performance in Inside is enough to convince me that he is an inspiring addition to the cast.

I am not familiar with Daisy Ridley or Domhnall Gleeson, but I’m glad they’re not going with super obvious choices. Andy Serkis‘s name being attached to Star Wars makes me giddy. He’ll no doubt be playing some awesome mo-cap CG creature and it’s good they went to the master of mo-cap for that character. Max von Sydow is great in anything and I would love it if he was playing an old Imperial Grand Moff or something.

Rumor has it there will be more announcements on May 4th, so hopefully we’ll find out who these people are playing. I doubt we’ll get the title yet, but who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky since we went so long without any real info.

What do you guys think of the cast? Are you bummed they didn’t mention Billy Dee Williams?

  • I am not a huge Star Wars fan but this looks promising. Also looks like Hamill has gotten in better shape for whatever part he may play. I have confidence JJ is going to knock this out of the park.

    I’m waiting for all the breakdowns on what it means because X is sitting next to Y LOL
    Although I presume that’s Daisy sitting between Harrison and Carrie. could be a daughter…
