WTWTA Roundup – Let the Wild Rumpus Start! [Update]

Posted 11 years ago by Movies

Tomorrow marks the release of Spike Jonze’s adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are, and I couldn’t be more excited. Well, I could be more excited if there was a midnight show playing somewhere near me, but we have plans to see it tomorrow evening with a ton of family, and I think that will be better.

This isn’t a review, because I haven’t seen it yet, so consider this the prequel to the review that I’ll hopefully post this weekend. So, here’s some cool Where The Wild Things Are content for your perusal before you go see the movie.

The Newsweek Interview

Sendak

Earlier this week, Newsweek published a great interview with Maurice Sendak, Spike Jonze, and Dave Eggers. They’re all on the same page about films about childhood versus children’s films, and it’s a great read.

This one has a bonus too, some unpublished excerpts from the interview, posted on the journalist’s Tumblr blog.

Dave Eggers’ Wild Things Book

Wild Things

Screenwriter Dave Eggers wrote this novelization loosely based on the original book and the movie script. It’s supposed to be a pretty good read for the young and us older kids. It comes in a Furry-Covered or Regular Edition. I intend on picking this up as soon as possible, but I don’t want to read it before seeing the movie.

Two New Wild Things Clips

These were posted on the MTV Movies Blog, and they offer a more in-depth glimpse at the interaction between Max and the Wild Things than what is present in the trailers.

If you read the Newsweek interview above (and you really should), you can definitely see what they were talking about as far as the ever-present danger in the movie. I can’t wait to see how they show the Wild Things as being unpredictable, as if they could eat Max up in a moment if they wanted.

The Making of Book

Heads On and We Shoot

I don’t know if you’ve seen this yet, but there is a great looking book out called Heads On And We Shoot. It’s published by It Books, an imprint of Harper Collins. Check out this link for a cool PDF preview of a few pages. I haven’t seen the movie yet, and I’m already dreaming about the Blu-ray because of this cool behind the scenes stuff!

Roger Ebert’s Review

Read Roger Ebert’s review of Where the Wild Things Are.

Spike Jonze’s Maurice Sendak Documentary

Documentary

This one is a little late, but if you have HBO (I don’t), they ran a 40-minute documentary by Spike Jonze called Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak. Hopefully this will be included on the Blu-ray.

Wild Things Blog Fort Contest Winners

If you follow the awesome (and official) Wild Things blog We Love You So, you’ve probably heard of their fort-building contest that’s been going on for a while. They just posted the winners, and now I’m glad I didn’t enter, because I wouldn’t have had a chance.

Sideshow Collectibles’ Wild Things VCDs

Max RAH 12-inch Figure - Where the Wild Things Are

Sideshow Collectibles has a cool assortment of affordable Vinyl Collectible Dolls based on the Wild Things movie right now, and they all look great.

The Slash Film Interview

Update: Slash Film just posted a 22 minute interview with Spike Jonze.

Well, that’s it for now. What are you waiting for? Go see this movie!

Ps – My review might come in a surprise new format this weekend, but more details on that later.
