Peanuts 70s Collection

Previously on SMC, I told you about the cool Peanuts 1960s Collection Warner Bros. released. Well, after that set’s success they’ve released the new Peanuts 1970’s Collection: Volume 1. On two discs it collects the first six television specials from the 70s, all remastered and fancied up.

Cool Event: SNICK Live Retrospective in NYC

Posted 11 years ago by Television

If you grew up in the 90s like I did, you are probably aware of Nickelodeon’s SNICK, the two hour block of programming including Clarissa Explains it All, Ren & Stimpy, and Are You Afraid of the Dark.

Well, if you live close to New York City, you may want to mark this down on your calendar for Saturday, November 7th. A live recreation of a night of SNICK on stage at the Creek in Long Island City, Queens. There will be bumpers, ads, a live rendition of the Midnight Society (featuring audience submissions), specially themed drinks, and maybe even some familiar guests.

I wish I could go to this (#nothingcooleverhappensinindianapolis), so if you make it out, be sure to snap some pics and send them my way, and I’ll post them on the site.

You can read more details and RSVP on the event’s Facebook page, and remember, they’re taking ghost story submissions!

WTWTA Roundup – Let the Wild Rumpus Start! [Update]

Tomorrow marks the release of Spike Jonze’s adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are, and I couldn’t be more excited. Well, I could be more excited if there was a midnight show playing somewhere near me, but we have plans to see it tomorrow evening with a ton of family, and I think that will be better.

This isn’t a review, because I haven’t seen it yet, so consider this the prequel to the review that I’ll hopefully post this weekend. So, here’s some cool Where The Wild Things Are content for your perusal before you go see the movie.

The Newsweek Interview

Sendak

Earlier this week, Newsweek published a great interview with Maurice Sendak, Spike Jonze, and Dave Eggers. They’re all on the same page about films about childhood versus children’s films, and it’s a great read.

This one has a bonus too, some unpublished excerpts from the interview, posted on the journalist’s Tumblr blog.

Obi-Wan

I’ve always wanted a cool 12 inch Star Wars figure. It may have taken me over twenty years to finally get one, but the years of waiting paid off. Now I have a sweet 12 inch figure from Sideshow Collectibles of Obi-Wan Kenobi as a General in the Clone Wars.

This figure from Sideshow is insanely detailed, from the likeness of Ewan McGregor to the PVC clone armor.

Turtles Forever Preview is Up and Awesome

Posted 11 years ago by Television

I haven’t really known what to expect with the decades-crossing Turtles Forever special, but now I think I have a much better idea. From this preview it’s obvious that they’re going to be making fun of the 80s series quite a bit, but that’s fine with me. I loved the mutant banana and pizza slices, attacking April side-by-side with some leprechauns, because why not?

I can’t wait to see Shredder, Krang, Bebop, and Rocksteady in this too, it should be a lot of fun!

Now if only we could figure out when we’ll get to see it.
