Wreck-it Ralph Cast

Seriously. Go see it, you’ll love it. I didn’t think I was going to get to see it this weekend but I’m glad I did. It’s crazy funny, has a lot of heart, and is one of the most fun movies I’ve seen in years. The use of actual game characters isn’t as big a part of the story as the ads make you think, and that’s a good thing. The game worlds they created for the movie are great, and there’s plenty of gaming humor thrown in.

The characters are awesome and the casting is perfect. John C. Reilly was born to be Ralph, and the supporting characters are just as funny. Sarah Silverman’s character might get on some people’s nerves, but I thought she was hilarious. The story is actually a little more surprising than you’d expect in an animated movie, and the villain is executed perfectly.

We saw a late show packed with adults and a few kids, and the place went wild the whole time. Lots of huge laughs and tons of nods to gaming and geek culture. There’s even a tiny TMNT cameo at the beginning.

Make sure to get there early to catch the gorgeous new Disney short Paperman, a CG/Hand-drawn blend that I could have watched for two hours.

Kudos to Disney for beating Pixar this year. I liked Brave a lot, but Wreck-It Ralph was amazing. I plan on seeing it again very soon, and you can expect a full review in podcast form too.

Go see it!

‘Wreck-it Ralph’ Trailer

Ok, I’m officially pumped about this movie guys. We talked about Wreck-it Ralph way back on the second episode of Bubble Pipe Theater, and now we finally have a trailer for the film, which opens November 2nd. I would be on board with an animated movie about an 8-bit villain trying to reinvent himself by diving into some other video games even if it didn’t have actual video game characters in it.

If you watch the trailer, you’ll see Bowser, Dr. Robotnik, Zangief, a Pac-Man Ghost, Q-Bert, M. Bison, Kano from Mortal Kombat, and a lot more. Ralph is voiced by John C. Reilly, and the character design looks great. I’m so glad this film looks fun even without the retro game cameos. It looks like Ralph makes his way to a Candyland-inspired game, featuring Sarah Silverman as a cute and annoying little girl, and then into a Halo-inspired shooter with Jane Lynch as a soldier. Perfect casting.

What did you think of the trailer?
