The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

The Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang: Lego Magazine TMNT Ad
I love this LEGO TMNT poster and how it's going for the 1990 movie poster aesthetic.

Yes please.

Bret McKenzie Will Return for the Next Muppet Movie « ToughPigs
Great news. Bret McKenzie was one of the best things The Muppets had and I'm glad to see he'll back for round two.

Ernest Goes to Blu-ray

Posted 9 years ago by Movies

Chalk this up as something that only I would get excited about, but while browsing Amazon last night I made a shocking discover. Ernest movies on Blu-ray! I was a huge Ernest P. Worrell fan growing up, and Ernest Scared Stupid is one of my favorite movies to watch around Halloween (see previous article), so getting in in HD for $5.99 sounds good to me.

It looks like they’ve released Ernest Goes to Camp and Ernest Goes to Jail separately for the same price, or together for around $9. No sign of Ernest Saves Christmas (review) sadly, but I think I’ll live.

These are the kind of things I get excited about. Obviously I have problems.

Revisiting Ernest Saves Christmas

Ernest Saves Christmas

Just like how every Halloween I watch Ernest Scared Stupid, every year around now I try to watch one of my favorite Christmas movies of the 80s, Ernest Saves Christmas (Amazon).

You either love Ernest or you hate him, but you can’t deny the fact that the Ernest P. Worrell phenomenon was one of the oddest things in pop culture history to this day. The character was created by an ad agency in Nashville, and grew to such huge popularity that they expanded to television and films.

Ernest Saves Christmas came out in 1988, and I remember watching it on TV just about every year. In this movie Ernest is a taxi driver in Orlando when Santa comes to town looking for a replacement.

Ernest Scared Stupid

Ah Ernest, I knew thee well. It was nice growing up watching your antics. I could relate to you. Wait, were you based on my dad?

I’m ashamed that I forgot about Ernest for as long as I did, but not anymore. I’m coming to appreciate why I liked Ernest movies. It was good, stupid fun. Think about it, the majority of his movies were him making funny faces and doing crazy characters. Since it’s Halloween, I had to break out Ernest Scared Stupid, Ernest’s fourth theatrical adventure. I doubt anyone thinks this is his finest work, or that any of his work is fine by that matter, but I don’t care. If you didn’t grow up with it you probably won’t understand it.

Ernest is scared of trolls, in case you were wondering.
