Seth Rogen is Making a Movie About the Nintendo/Sega War of the ’90s. Wait, what?

Nintendont

Well, this is already my favorite movie. According to everyone on the internet, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are making a movie based on the (as yet unreleased) book Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle that Defined a Generation. What. the. hell.

I don’t know if we should expect a Social Network like drama about the business dealings behind the console wars, or something more funny and 90s-nostalgia-driven, but either way, I’m in. I was a Sega kid growing up, but discovered the joys of the SNES after it was already old news, and now I’m a huge fan of both.

As a nostalgia nut who gets giddy with excitement anytime a retro gaming console is seen in the background of a movie or TV show, this should be a sensory overload for me.

  • Sega kid here as well. My Sega Genesis was unbeatable in my eyes, but I was the only Sega fan in my group of friends.

This movie could be quite interesting. I did read in a few places this is set to be a more behind-the-scenes look and less comedy driven. Wolf of Wall Street with a Hedgehog & Plumber.

  • I followed the same Genesis –> SNES –> Both path. One day I realized it was pointless to hate on “other” game consoles. The only people who “lose” are the haters, who miss out on awesome games. Better to be platform neutral and play everything!

  • I also just realized once this comes out that vintage game prices are going to shoot up even more 🙁

  • The Sewer Den

Oh man, am I the only one who walked the path from Nintendo to SEGA? I also loved both companies and am down for a movie like this. Maybe we’ll get 16-bit style poster?
