TMNT Half-Shell Heroes

I told myself I was going to go to Toy Fair this year, but it didn’t work out. Hopefully next year! I wish it could have happened because there is a metric shitton of cool stuff getting announced. I’ll be keeping tabs on all the cool stuff and rounding up a lot of links and photos this week.

First off, Playmates teased a ton of new TMNT toys and they all look great. I’m lagging behind with their current Nickelodeon line (I haven’t been hunting for new figures for a while), but I don’t know how much longer I’ll try to get every figure in that line. However, they announced a cutesy line of Turtles called Half-Shell Heroes and they are the cutest things ever, so I will be buying all of those up.

It looks like they’ll release Half Shell Heroes versions of just about every character, a few vehicles and playsets, and even some jumbo versions of the cutesy Turtles. I think I may actually like these more than the main figures in Playmates’ current line. They look so fun.

TMNT Toy Fair

As expected, Playmates also announced a lot of normal figures for the TMNT line (and a new blimp!) but there’s nothing too earth-shattering. Well, there’s Donatello dressed as a wizard. That’s pretty awesome. Raph’s Galactus helmet is pretty awesome too. Here’s hoping those fantasy Turtles are inspired by an upcoming episode involving LARPing.

LEGO Ghostbusters

LEGO Cuusoo Ghostbusters Set

That was fast! LEGO just announced the awesome Ghostbusters Cuusoo set a little while ago and they’ve already unveiled the product. It will go on sale this June for $50, and it looks great! I still haven’t picked up the LEGO Back to the Future set yet, but these two will definitely go great together.

Toy Fair DC Comics

Upcoming DC Comics Toys

Despite my love of superheroes, I don’t buy a lot of collectible DC or Marvel toys. I get the occasional Funko toy, but the action figures have gotten so expensive the last few years (and smaller/less cool) that I don’t splurge very often. Well, at least in the DC Comics arena, that may change this year.

For one, DC is releasing some really nice Batman: The Animated Series inspired figures. I won’t be able to pass those up. They’ll be releasing figures based on both styles/series of the show, which is awesome. I loved both styles for different reasons and it will be awesome to have some high-quality figures based on those shows. Mr. Freeze and Two-Face were also announced.

They’re also releasing some new Super Powers figures that are supposed to be throwbacks to the old 80s toys. I guess in color scheme only, but they’re still pretty cool. I could see myself at least picking up a Batman and Superman in that series.

Honorable Mentions

Did I miss anything?

  • I have to say the new Batman Animated toys look incredible! Slash looks a little underwhelming but the thing is with the TMNT basic figures is that paying less than $9 a pop is completely affordable. Finding them on the other hand is a whole other issue.

  • Ben Rollier

I’m digging that Super Powers Batman. I like the idea of the BTAS series but, I really wish they were doing an original style Batman and Mr. Freeze. I MUCH prefer the first character designs.
