Sonic the Hedgehog Valentine Scans [1994]

Sonic the Hedgehog

Well, the first (hopefully annual) Retro Valentine Giveaway is over, and the most-requested cards by a longshot from everyone who entered were these Sonic The Hedgehog cards. I wanted to get some Nintendo Valentines but couldn’t snag any, so I’m glad I was able to get some that were video-game themed.

These cards came out in 1994 at the height of Sonic-mania. I think I got my Sega Genesis in 1995 on my tenth birthday, and it came with Sonic II. I don’t know for sure, but I bet I had these Valentines at some point.

Sonic and Tails look pretty good on these cards, but I’m sure kids in 94 saved the Robotnik cards for their least-favorite friends (and teachers). “You’re so nice it’s disgusting!”….gee thanks.

Jetsons Valentine Scans [1989]

Jetsons Valentines

Remember when The Jetsons surged in popularity again in the 80s and early 90s? The show came back in 1985 and then they released Jetsons: The Movie in 1990, so it’s no surprise that they made Jetsons Valetines in 89. I don’t know if kids would have been that excited about getting Valentines featuring George Jetson and the gang, but I probably would have. I was a weird kid though.

Ducktales Valentine Scans [1986]

Ducktales Valentine

I’ve loved putting together the Vintage Valentine Giveaway this year, and I really think it’s going to be an annual thing on Top Hat Sasquatch. One of the best parts is just getting to see all these retro Valentines again. Some I actually remembered having as a kid.

But some, like these awesome Ducktales Valentines from 1986, were a little before my elementary school days so I never had them. Being obsessed with retro stuff, especially retro stuff based on my favorite cartoons, I love seeing the designs on these Valentines. Part of my original idea for doing the Valentine giveaway was that I could take my favorites and scan them before I sent them out to people so I could archive them in blog posts here. That way everyone can see all the Valentines!

Below is a gallery of all the Valentines that came in this Ducktales box. Click each one to embiggen, and feel free to download and share these!

Vintage Valentines Cards!

Vintage Valentines!

This year I finally remembered to do something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time before it was too late. For a while I’ve been hoarding unopened Valentine’s Day card boxes from the 80s and 90s, with the intention of just giving them out to people. For some reason I always forget to get it going before it’s too late, but this year I am on top of it. I ordered a bunch of new Valentine’s and have been preparing for a massive Vintage Valentines Giveaway!

It’s not a contest or anything, I just want to send you Valentines. I am pretty obsessed with vintage stuff and I get a kick out of seeing Valentines cards from when I was younger, and I figured that a lot of you would too. Who doesn’t remember decorating your cereal box and getting bombarded with cards in elementary school? I remember saving the most awesome cards in each box for my best friends and crushes.

Cool Stuff: TMNT Valentine Candy Card Kit

TMNT Valentine Candy Card Kit

While waiting for drugs at my local Meijer today (I got a wisdom tooth pulled, yay), I spotted these nifty Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Valentines. Ever since Christmas was over and Valentine’s Day stuff started creeping it’s way into stores, I’d been wondering if Nickelodeon would be making any of the Turtle variety this year. Well, they are!

I threw this in my cart (along with some Mutagen Ooze, more on that later) without really reading the box, because Turtles! When I got it home I realized it was a Valentine Candy Card Kit. I wasn’t sure what that meant exactly, so I cracked it open.
