VHS Nostalgia: Jurassic Park

VHS Nostalgia

After my post about the VHS tapes I picked up at Goodwill the other day, I thought I would start a new series on the site dedicated to VHS Nostalgia. Besides the box art, one of the things I remember most about VHS tapes was the stuff that you’d find inside.

I remember being almost as excited about the inserts, ads, and coupons as I would be about getting to watch the movie. In the days before the Internet, Twitter, and blogs, sometimes the inserts in VHS tapes were the way you’d find out about new movies or when one of your favorite movies was coming to home video for the first time. Disney tapes in particular always had a ton of inserts.

Well, today I was at Goodwill again and I found something pretty awesome. A sealed Jurassic Park tape for fifty cents. I immediately started wondering what treasures would be inside the cardboard box besides my favorite movie of all time on an old-school tape. When I got home I took the shrink-wrap off and scanned the pages of the booklet that fell out. Other than a few superfluous Jello pages, here it is intact.

The 10 Weirdest Coloring Books on Amazon

Weird Coloring Books

Confession: I still like to color. I’m not ashamed of it. I stare at a computer screen for the majority of the day, and usually at a television screen for the other hours I’m not sleeping, so having something analog to do every once in a while probably just helps my brain not melt. Being the nostalgic person I am, every once in a while I think to go buy some coloring books and a fresh pack of Crayolas. Luckily my wife enjoys it too and doesn’t think I’m crazy.

When I was preparing the art for our Top Hat Sasquatch shirts, I realized I could totally make a coloring sheet with our mascot, and I got way too excited. That combined with the new TMNT coloring books I ordered on Amazon, and I was apparently back into coloring.

Then I realized that I’d never bought coloring books online before, and that there had to be a bunch of weird, random, and awesome coloring books that would be way more fun than picking up a Hello Kitty or Dark Knight Rises book at the store. Yeah, turns out there are.

So, here are the 10 weirdest coloring books I found on Amazon. I use weird in the best way possible, so no offense to any of the authors. I run a site called Top Hat Sasquatch anyway, so who am I to talk?

Rocko's Modern Life

Wow, I didn’t expect to get this bit of news in my inbox today. Nickelodeon and Shout! Factory are brining the entire first season of Rocko’s Modern Life, my favorite 90s cartoon, to DVD in June. This is especially surprising because for a while Amazon has had exclusive dibs on some crappy ‘best of’ DVDs, but now we’ll actually get all 26 episodes of the first season on two discs. I’m so excited.

Here’s the full press release:

The Pirates of Darkwater on DVD

Posted 10 years ago by Television

I don’t know how, but I completely missed out on The Pirates of Darkwater when I was a kid. It aired on Fox Kids in the prime of my cartoon-watching days, when I was about six years old. I thought Pirates were pretty cool, but still, I totally missed this one.

Luckily, thanks to WB and their Warner Archive, I now have the entire series on DVD.

Micro Machines Z-bots

Posted 10 years ago by Toys

If you were a child of the late 80s/early 90s like me, it was hard to avoid the Micro Machines commercials. I had quite a few, including the awesome fold-out city in a bus (which I can’t seem to find online). Tiny cars and trucks are cool and all, but they don’t compare to tiny robots and their ginormous compandres. Even though I didn’t own very many Z-Bots, I was a big fan.
