Animé-Style Star Wars Fan Film Totally Rocks

Posted 8 years ago by Animated Shorts

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve never quite gotten into Animé. I consider myself less of a geek for not knowing all that much about this important niche of our culture. This new Star Wars-themed video may change all that.

First of all, it’s Star Wars so I’m instantly hooked. But there’s also the addition of some killer tunes by band Sleigh Bells. According to YouTube uploader SuperMulciber it was originally posted by a user named Otaking77077. He just added the soundtrack because “it went well together.” It certainly does. Many of the scenes seem to be perfectly choreographed to the music.

According to the folks at /Film, the animation was done by Paul Michael Johnson under that Otaking77077 pseudonym. Apparently it’s just a tease of more to come from Johnson. I certainly cannot wait for more.

The Makers of Robot Chicken Announce Star Wars Detours

Posted 8 years ago by Television

There are two things in life I enjoy above pretty much every. Well, two things other than my family, career, dog, and all the other stuff I’m supposed to say. Those two things are Star Wars and funny stuff.

That means I’m an instant fan of this new creation from the funnymakers at Robot Chicken. Surely you’ve seen the Adult Swim TV series created by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich . They’ve done a few Star Wars parody specials over the years. Now they seem to have gone whole hog Gamorrean Guard into Star Wars with Star Wars Detours.

It’s an animated series that was just announced at Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando. The details are a bit sketchy on whether it’ll be a TV or web series. With Robot Chicken and Lucasfilm’s existing relationships with Cartoon Network, I have to assume it’ll be on there.

Check out the trailer above and watch the three clips over at starwars.com. There’s also an official Detours Facebook page.

Missing Links

The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

WTF indeed, but these are actually kind of cool. And anything to get my totally-uninterested nephews into Star Wars.

The Silver Surfer was almost the first Marvel movie ever. Interesting.

Vlog: TMNT Sewer Exploration Belt, from 1990. | Dinosaur Dracula!
I totally forgot about the Sewer Exploration Belt. I never had one, but it was on my radar. I opted to get the Turtle Communicator instead, but I love the less-known bits of TMNT merchandise.

‘The Office’ Closes After One More Season | /Film
The second half of last season was a disappointment to me, but the promise of going out with a bang will get me to tune in. I just hope they bring Michael Scott back for at least one episode.

Wait, what?

This Just In: Retro Trading Cards

Retro Trading Cards

Time for a new series here on the ‘squatch, This Just In. Inspired by Cool and Collected’s ‘It Came in the Mail’ posts, and by the fact that geeks love finding random junk, I decided it was time to start posting photos when I snag weird retro stuff. I troll eBay for the weirdest stuff, but when I was putting together the ‘Friends of Top Hat Sasquatch’ t-shirt presale, I realized I wanted some cool goodies to throw in to thank everyone for supporting the site, and I was lucky enough to score a huge lot of cards for a pretty good price.

There are 50 odd packs in total, but I love the art and wanted to show off some of my favorites. I’ll admit, I’m going to keep a few of these for myself, but if you have favorites, let me know when you order a shirt and I’ll try to accomodate everyone.

Just please, don’t eat the gum.

Amazing Holographic Lego Star Wars In-Store Display

Posted 8 years ago by Toys

I have very little restraint when it comes to anything LEGO Star Wars. I try my best to resist the urge to buy them all. If there’s a set on sale for as little as 10% off, I rationalize it as a perfect opportunity to indulge myself.

If I saw a display like this in a store, well… Money would spontaneously fly out of my wallet. It wouldn’t be my fault. The display made me do it. Lucky for my mortgage payment, this display with holographic animation effects is in Norway.

Watch this captivating video and decide yourself if you could withstand firepower of that magnitude. I bet not.
