[Update] LEGO Announcing TMNT Sets Today at NYCC?

LEGO Pizza

Any readers of the ‘squatch going to be attending NYCC today? If so, make sure to scout out the LEGO booth, because FBTB received a mysterious LEGO pizza set in the mail today that makes a TMNT announcement seem pretty likely.

I received the above promo in the mail today and thought it was merely a promo piece for their first ever booth presence at New York Comic Con that kicks off tomorrow. Upon closer inspection, however, the bottom of the pizza slice box says “Box design and printing, Casey Jones LTD.” and it all clicked together, pretty much confirming what is going to be unveiled tomorrow at NYCC.

Anybody that snags one of those promo pizza slices (or any TMNT promos) for me gets a free THS t-shirt and my eternal gratitude. Hopefully later today we’ll have some solid news. I wonder if LEGO will just make sets based on the Nick show, or if they’ll go retro too? Could you imagine a LEGO Party Wagon or Technodrome?

Check out FBTB for the whole scoop.

Update! LEGO has released an official image!

LEGO TMNT

I like some of it but it could be better. I’m sure there will be plenty of posts to come analyzing the upcoming sets. Stay tuned!

Does LEGO Have the TMNT License?

LEGO TMNT

I try not to post a lot of wild speculation on the site or a lot of headlines with question marks at the end, but when it involves two of my favorite things possibly combining to form one perfectly awesome thing, I’ve gotta post it.

There are rumors on the interwebs that LEGO has the license for the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show and are releasing sets in 2013. Yes, LEGO TMNT could maybe become a thing.

I hope so. Mega Bloks’ license seemed to expire before Viacom bought the Turtles, and I’d love to see what LEGO could do. I would knock kids down to get to official LEGO TMNT sets.

The rumor originated on a French LEGO blog called Hoth Bricks that claims to have a reliable source. With Nickelodeon pushing the new show as much as they have been, and with their established relationship with LEGO, I could totally see this happening.

What do you think, would you buy LEGO TMNT sets?

Missing Links: Toxic Avenger, The Office, TMNT, and Star Wars

Missing Links

The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

WTF: LucasFilm and Disney Combine To Create Star Wars ‘Cars’ Figures | /Film
WTF indeed, but these are actually kind of cool. And anything to get my totally-uninterested nephews into Star Wars.

The Silver Surfer was almost the first Marvel movie ever. Interesting.

Vlog: TMNT Sewer Exploration Belt, from 1990. | Dinosaur Dracula!
I totally forgot about the Sewer Exploration Belt. I never had one, but it was on my radar. I opted to get the Turtle Communicator instead, but I love the less-known bits of TMNT merchandise.

‘The Office’ Closes After One More Season | /Film
The second half of last season was a disappointment to me, but the promise of going out with a bang will get me to tune in. I just hope they bring Michael Scott back for at least one episode.

Wait, what?

I'll be very surprised if LEGO doesn't make this a thing really soon.

One Simply Cannot Watch the ‘LEGO: The Lord of the Rings’ Trailer

Come on, seriously, they’re going to make a billion dollars with this game. Actual movie dialogue? Brilliant, because the minifigure pantomime was getting a little old, and you really can’t have Gandalf facing down a Balrog and grunt instead of saying ‘You shall not pass!’

That reminds me, where’s my LEGO Balrog? How is that not a thing yet?

LEGO Turns 80, Still Uses Flash

Posted 8 years ago by Toys

The LEGO Group quietly turned 80 years old today, and so far the only thing I’ve found that qualifies as an official announcement is this 20 minute long CG animated short video. If it’s not showing up for you, that’s because the video is Flash. Apparently they can pay a company (I assume) a large chunk of change to animate this history of the company, but can’t afford to create a MP4 file.

Update: The video is up on YouTube now.

Seriously though, Happy Birthday to my favorite toy company around. Here are some details from their official blog:

In 1932, Ole Kirk Christiansen founded the LEGO Group. Today the company has approximately 10,000 employees, and it is the world’s third largest manufacturer of play materials.

I’ll admit I didn’t have the patience to watch that whole video, but I can happily report that I skipped ahead and found out that the kid sounds almost exactly like Ralph Wiggum.
