Halloween

It’s that time of year! The mighty month of October is upon us, and that means hoodie weather, pumpkins, Reese’s Pumpkins, an excuse to sit out your old McDonald’s pails, and of course Halloween countdowns on all your favorite blogs.

I love Halloween as much as the next blogger, but I won’t be posting a Halloween countdown this year and thought I’d let you know why, as well as fill you in on what sites I’m checking every day this season. So, Y U No post a countdown you say?

Cool Stuff: Michael de Pippo’s ‘Great Pumpkin’ Posters

Michael de Pippo's 'Great Pumpkin' Posters

Michael de Pippo caught my eye last year when he designed the awesome ‘Electric Mayhem’ concert posters, and I’ve been watching to see what else he’s had up his sleeve since then. His latest work is based off of my favorite TV Halloween special, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!. You can get the posters in the standard and variant versions above, as well as each on super-limited wood prints.

I love both versions, but the standard may be my favorite and I’m definitely going to try and snag one. Having bought all five of de Pippo’s Muppet posters, I can tell you that the quality on these is insanely great. They’re each hand-screen-printed and numbered, and come printed on very high-quality paper. The quantities for all versions will be pretty limited, but shouldn’t be as hard to get as Mondo posters.

Be sure to check out Michael’s post on his site for more info.

They go on sale next Tuesday at 9:30am PST on Dark Hall Mansion’s website, so be sure to bookmark that if you want to have a chance at getting some awesome ‘Great Pumpkin’ art by Michael de Pippo. I know the art in my office could use a little seasonal flair.

Geek Eats: Halloween Sugar Rush

Halloween Geek Eats

The Halloween season is rapidly approaching and today I officially decided to be pumped about it. I love so many things about Halloween, but one thing that always gets me in the spirit is seeing Halloween-themed candy at the store, and today I brought home a bag full.

So, in the spirit of Holiday money-grubbing by the snack food industry, and my desire to use this site as an excuse to load up on candy, I give you the first edition of a new series called Geek Eats with a special Halloween edition.

Candy Corn Oreos, Snickers Pumpkins, Cadbury Screme Eggs, and Box of Boogers gummies are all pretty awesome, although I wouldn’t recommend eating them all at once in order to write an article. That will make you feel not so awesome.

Cute Stuff: Muppet Baby Costumes by JustZipity

Kermit Baby Costume

File this under Awwwwwww. Etsy user JustZipity sells handmade Muppet ‘costumes’ for babies, and they could possibly be the cutest things ever. The masks look really well-made and would definitely blow any store-bought Muppet costume out of the water.

If I had a baby I would totally buy all of these. As of right now, she’s got Kermit, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Gonzo, Oscar the Grouch, and Abby Cadabby. The idea of a baby’s face looking like it’s in the process of being swallowed by Cookie Monster is worth $40, and actually becomes a slightly scary Halloween costume when you think about it.

Oh, and she claims she can make these in adult sizes too, in case you’re like me and were wondering.

Check out her Etsy shop and buy them all. Via Laughing Squid.

ParaNorman Review: A New Halloween Classic

ParaNorman

I love Coraline. I’ve always been a huge stop-motion nerd, but Coraline got me really excited about the medium again, and I’ve been waiting and waiting for Laika’s second movie to hit theaters. ParaNorman looked amazing from the first teaser, but could the new studio pull off another awesome animated film without Henry Selick’s directing or Neil Gaiman’s story?

I was really worried ParaNorman would be all style and no substance. Thankfully I was wrong.
