The Cult of LEGO

I think by now it should be obvious to you that we here at Top Hat Sasquatch are huge LEGO fans. Even before the days of licensed sets, LEGO appealed to geeks and non-geeks alike, enabling creative play with endless possibilities. It’s no surprise that the LEGO brand has amassed such a huge cult following that continues to grow every year.

If you read this site and are a big fan of LEGO, you’re probably familiar with John Baichtal and Joe Meno’s work. John writes for the always-awesome blog GeekDad and Joe is the founder of BrickJournal. The Cult of LEGO is the product of their hard work and fanboy dedication to the little plastic bricks from Denmark.

Win the First set of TMNT Soap from Geeksoap! [Update]

Posted 10 years ago by Stuff

Do you think you’re a TMNT Mega-Fan? Do you have proof on photo or video? Do you like soap? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, this contest is for you! Saturday Morning Central has teamed up with Lesley of GEEKSOAP to giveaway the first set of her TMNT Guest Soap.

The Rules

All you have to do to win is submit a photo or video showing that you are a TMNT Mega-Fan. It could be like the one of me above, sporting my new TMNT shirt on the first day of school when I was younger. It could be of your office now covered in TMNT memorabilia, or a photo of you in a homemade Shredder costume. It’s up to you. My panel of judges will decide who gets the soap based on the submissions, and the winner will be posted here.

You have until 10am EST on Saturday, July 3rd to get your entry in.

That’s not much time, so get out your old photo albums, warm up your video camera, and get to work. When you’ve got something ready, leave a link to it in a comment on this post. That way, everyone can see what is being entered, and we can all be equally embarrassed.

The contest is open to anyone in the United States. Good luck!

Update – Congrats to Calvin for winning the first set of TMNT Geeksoap!

LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary Review + Giveaway Winners

Posted 11 years ago by Books

LEGO Star Wars

I promise, this will be the last LEGO Star Wars post in a while, but consider it the most important. Now that the contest is over (scroll down for winners), it’s time to round up my thoughts for an official review of LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary from DK Publishing.

I grew up with the classic DK Star Wars books like the Incredible Cross-sections and the Visual Dictionaries, and this one definitely is just as cool. Actually, it may be the coolest, since it combines Star Wars and LEGO into one awesome book.

The book is hardback with an extra-thick front cover. That’s because the bottom right corner holds an exclusive A New Hope ceremonial Luke minifig! At first glance the book seems short at 96 pages, but once you read through it all (and realize it’s for ages 7+), the book seems the perfect length.

Death Star

One of the coolest features of the book is right up front; the timeline. It lists every LEGO Star Wars set from the last ten years, which is a very cool resource for collectors. From there it takes you through each film’s sets and details every minifigure, all in the classic DK style.
