Missing Links for Dec. 6th, 2010

Posted 10 years ago by Missing Links

The Tophat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

Dr. Seuss’ Star Wars
This is pretty awesome. Star Wars if it was written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Story Revealed? Is it ‘Prey’ with Dr. Hugo Strange?
I haven’t read Prey, and I’m not sure this would be the best way to end the trilogy, but I’m sure Nolan knows best.

A is for Ackbar
Brandon Peat illustrates the alphabet with Star Wars characters, and has actually made them into nice-looking books.

TRON: Legacy – Low Rez Trailer
In the vein of Sweded trailers ala Be Kind Rewind, the guys at Gamervision have created a low-rez version of the Tron Legacy trailer, in 3D no less. Impressive.

Horton Hears a Who! Blu-ray Review

Horton Hears A Who Blu-ray

Woo-hoo, more classic animation on Blu-ray! You’ll hear me screaming from the rooftops that we need more classic animation on Blu-ray (in fact, I’m working on a whole site on the subject), so I welcome all new releases. Even if Horton Hears a Who! isn’t my favorite Dr. Seuss story, it’s fun to have in High Definition.

Horton

This is a Seuss cartoon that I haven’t seen near as much as I’ve seen the Grinch or the Cat in the Hat. In fact, I’ve probably seen the 2008 film more times than I’ve actually seen this, and I hate to say it, but I think I like the 2008 film better.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Blu-ray Review

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Blu-ray

The Christmas spirit continues today on SMC with another classic animated TV special on Blu-ray, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This was released at the same time as A Charlie Brown Christmas and Horton Hears a Who! by Warner Bros. This is oddly the first time I’ve owned this special on any format, but at least I’m starting with the best.

The Grinch looks great in HD, and much like the Charlie Brown Christmas, it seems like it couldn’t ever get any better. A lot of the bonus features from the previous versions are here, including the awesomely cheesy TNT special hosted by Phil Hartman. I remember watching this at my sister’s house every year (that’s probably why I’ve never bought it), and it’s as fun as it was in the 90s. There are also a few more featurettes, a commentary by legendary June Foray and Phil Roman, and a DVD and Digital copy.

Is it worth upgrading from DVD? I think so, but I’m an HD junkie. It’s definitely nice to have some more classic Christmas content on Blu-ray. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is available on Blu-ray now.
