Book Review: ‘LEGO Space: Building the Future’ is a triple treat

Lego Space: Building the Future

Lego Space and I go way back. I vividly remember going to my neighbor Jason’s house when I was young to play the sci-fi-themed building blocks. It must’ve been 1980 or ’81 and Lego had introduced its space theme just a few years earlier.

Jason was lucky enough to have most every set. We would pool all the loose bricks together and take turns picking pieces. Then we’d head to a separate corner of his bedroom to build a massive space ship. The goal was to out-cool the other person with our creation.

For us it was all about the build rather than imaginative play. We didn’t need to role play to enjoy Lego. That was the beauty of the toys. Lego’s multiple dimensions of enjoyment are part of its success all these years.

‘Adventure Time’ Intro Done Entirely in LEGO

Everything is better with LEGO. Even the awesomely awesome Cartoon Network series Adventure Time can be made better when animated with those interlocking blocks.

This video got me thinking that there should be some official Lego sets from the Land of Ooo. Turns out there already is a Cuusoo project with over 6,100 supporters. The fan-designed set needs 10,000 fans before it gets official review from the Lego Cuusoo team.

Cartoon Network is airing new episodes of Adventure Time, now in its fifth season, on Monday nights. Production has already begun on episodes for a sixth season. Here’s hoping the LEGO opening gets used for a future episode.

That LEGO Back to the Future Set is Totally Happening You Guys

As if it wasn’t hard enough to find the LEGO Minecraft set that was released through their Kickstarter-like CUUSOO site, LEGO has just announced the next project that’s getting the really-for-real treatment is this awesome Back to the Future Delorean.

It’ll probably take forever for this to come out, but you know they’re going to sell out like crazy. I was really hoping they would make the Modular Western Town, but apparently they have a new Western theme of their own brewing and they felt it would conflict.

What do you think, will you be picking this one up?

Missing Links

The Top Hat Sasquatch team reads a lot of blog posts every day, and some slip through the crack or just don’t warrant their own post. That’s where Missing Links comes in. Every few days we collect the best links we’ve come across and pass them on to you.

WTF: LucasFilm and Disney Combine To Create Star Wars ‘Cars’ Figures | /Film
WTF indeed, but these are actually kind of cool. And anything to get my totally-uninterested nephews into Star Wars.

The Silver Surfer was almost the first Marvel movie ever. Interesting.

Vlog: TMNT Sewer Exploration Belt, from 1990. | Dinosaur Dracula!
I totally forgot about the Sewer Exploration Belt. I never had one, but it was on my radar. I opted to get the Turtle Communicator instead, but I love the less-known bits of TMNT merchandise.

‘The Office’ Closes After One More Season | /Film
The second half of last season was a disappointment to me, but the promise of going out with a bang will get me to tune in. I just hope they bring Michael Scott back for at least one episode.

Rumor: John Travolta Might Play ‘The Toxic Avenger’
Wait, what?

I'll be very surprised if LEGO doesn't make this a thing really soon.

Cool Stuff: A LEGO Store for your LEGO City

LEGO City Store

I tend to let CUUSOO projects go viral before I pay much attention to them, but in the case of this LEGO City Store by RayC, I’m glad I can help spread the word in its early stages. Built in the tradition of LEGO’s modular buildings (spoiler: they fit together and are really expensive), this LEGO Store is as cute as it is meta.

LEGO has said that it looks for projects on CUUSOO that would be best as a one-off, rather than a whole new product line. If the LEGO City Store project reaches 10,000 supporters, I doubt they would be able to resist making this an actual product. How cool would it be to see a modular LEGO Store for sale at a regular-type LEGO Store?
