Journey to the center of Hawkthorne

I haven’t written much about Community on here, but it’s one of my all-time favorite TV shows, right up there with The Simpsons, Arrested Development, and a few seasons of The Office. A few weeks ago, the third season was wrapped up with an amazing tribute to retro games in the episode Digital Estate Planning. In the episode, Pierce (Chevy Chase) gets a note about his deceased (and super racist) Dad leaving him a video game to beat in order to claim his inheritance.

The game is called Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne, and one intrepid fan of the show has created a playable and downloadable version of his own, which you can grab here.

It’s incomplete, but it’s a great start. The graphics and sound are all dead-on from what was on screen in the show, and I can’t wait to see the end boss battle against Pierce’s Dad, complete with Troy and Abed riding dinosaurs and shooting lava.

Even if you haven’t followed all three seasons of Community, you should check out the episode if you’re a gamer. There are some jokes that are made just for us. I had to pause the show I was laughing so hard when everyone first gets in the game and Pierce is running back and forth saying “Which one am I?”

Episode 14

Tim and Tommy are always up for talking Lego, and this week they have a lot to talk about. 2012 is a huge year for the toy company, with Marvel Super Heroes, Lord of the Rings, Dino, Friends, and Monster Hunter lines debuting, alongside additional sets in all the classic series. Throw in a few more of the collectible minifigures and you’ve got a great year to be obsessed with LEGO.
