Super Friends Season One Volume Two [Rapid Review]

Posted 10 years ago by Television

Heads up Super Friends fans, Season One Volume Two is out on DVD featuring eight more episodes of the original 1973 cartoon. Since this show was before my time, I wasn’t aware there had been so many different versions of it throughout the years, from The All-New Super Friends Hour to the Challenge of the Super Friends (and even some lost episodes). This DVD set continues the original series where the Season One Volume One set left off.

It’s kind of weird that WB is splitting this 16 episode series into two separate DVD releases, but they have. Season One Vol. 2 contains the following episodes:

  • The Balloon People
  • The Fantastic FRERPs
  • The Ultra Beam
  • The Menace of the White Dwarf
  • The Mysterious Moles
  • Gulliver’s Gigantic Goof
  • The Planet Splitter
  • The Watermen

I think this was actually the first time I’d seen a full Super Friends episode, and it was about what I had expected. If you’re a fan of the campy 70s cartoon or you grew up with it, I’m sure the original Super Friends series is a must-have for your DVD collection.

  • I picked up a few seasons of Superfriends a while back, but much like you said, it’s very confusing. I’m not even sure what all I have, because they keep cranking out DVDs and variants with different titles. It’s put me off from buying anymore Superfriends DVDs and I’m guessing I’m not alone in that.

Anyway, I found a lot of the stuff to be borderline unwatchable. Some of it was cool, but other stuff just aged really bad. I guess for the kids someday.
