This Just In: Retro Trading Cards

Retro Trading Cards

Time for a new series here on the ‘squatch, This Just In. Inspired by Cool and Collected’s ‘It Came in the Mail’ posts, and by the fact that geeks love finding random junk, I decided it was time to start posting photos when I snag weird retro stuff. I troll eBay for the weirdest stuff, but when I was putting together the ‘Friends of Top Hat Sasquatch’ t-shirt presale, I realized I wanted some cool goodies to throw in to thank everyone for supporting the site, and I was lucky enough to score a huge lot of cards for a pretty good price.

There are 50 odd packs in total, but I love the art and wanted to show off some of my favorites. I’ll admit, I’m going to keep a few of these for myself, but if you have favorites, let me know when you order a shirt and I’ll try to accomodate everyone.

Just please, don’t eat the gum.

TMNT Week Starts Tuesday

TMNT Week

I wanted to give you all a heads up. I realized that I have a ton of TMNT content to publish in the next few days, and to not make this look like a TMNT-exclusive blog, I’ve decided to make next week TMNT Week. Specifically, Tuesday, July 24th through Friday, July 27th, so almost a week. Monday is my birthday and I’ll be taking the day off, but here’s what you have to look forward to next week:

  • Tuesday: Leonardo
  • Wednesday: Donatello
  • Thursday: Michelangelo
  • Friday: Raphael

Each day I’ll be posting reviews of the new action figures, as well as some character-related articles. I’ve had a blast lately geeking out with all you fellow bloggers and Twitterers about the resurgence of the TMNT, and I welcome you all to join in on TMNT Week!

See you next week!

Cool Stuff: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shoes

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Shoes

We’ve covered geeky shoes a couple of times on the ‘squatch before, and for all you geeks who proudly wear your hearts on your feet, here’s another pair to add to your collection.

Nickelodeon and Fila have joined forces to produce a couple limited edition pairs of sneakers inspired by everyone’s favorite mutant Turtles and their arch-nemesis The Shredder. Available this holiday season, the TMNT FX-100 is a black sneaker with green laces, an embroidered shell on the back, and wrapped in an interchangeable canvas strap featuring the colors of the Turtles’ masks.

Also, there’s a black, gray, and purple shoe modeled after the colors of The Shredder, and unfortunately not featuring any blades or sharp edges. Of the two designs, this is the most appealing to me, especially because they would be the perfect shoe to wear with my Shredder hoodie.

These may not be the best-looking shoes around, but at least Nickelodeon is serious about making the TMNT popular again, and that’s just fine by me. Bring on the merchandise!

So, would you ever wear TMNT shoes?

500th Post

500th Post!

Five hundred posts. Wow, that’s kind of cool. Even though I’ve been blogging here in one form or another for six years, the site has only been going consistently for around three or four. Rather than letting the milestone slip by unannounced I thought it would be fun to take a little trip down memory lane and revist some moments from Top Hat Sasquatch/Saturday Morning Central’s history, clip-show style.

In the past few years I’ve met some awesome people through this site (and through shamelessly promoting it on Twitter). Some people ended up joining the cause to blog and podcast with me, and I met plenty of people who run awesome blogs and podcasts of their own. I never would have guessed you could meet so many cool people by running a tiny geek blog.

Top Hat Sasquatch Approved Bigfoot-Shaped Air Freshener

Bigfoot Air Freshener

With our mascot being a fancy Sasquatch, we don’t mention cryptozoology as much as one might think around here. Well, when I saw this awesome Bigfoot-shaped air freshener I couldn’t resist. It’s pine scented (of course) and it’s made by Archie McPhee, purveyors of all kinds of weird crap. Seriously, I can’t even count how many gag gifts I’ve gotten for people over the years that have came from there.

I’d love to see them branch out into other popular mythical creatures, like the Jersey Devil, Chubacabra, and Lock Ness Monster. I wonder what those would smell like?
