A Muppet Family Christmas

Last year I wrote about my favorite Christmas special, A Muppet Family Christmas, and it’s hard to not write an article about it every year. I love it so much I watch it about ten times each holiday, and it never gets old. It is full of charm, classic Muppet humor, plus Fraggles and Sesame Street characters. What’s not to like?

After watching it last night I realized that I would love to have all the songs from the hour-long special as a soundtrack in my iTunes library. I couldn’t find it anywhere, so I decided to remedy that.

I ripped the audio from the video file I have (which has some parts you may not remember), separated all the songs, tweaked the levels a bit, then made sure it had all the proper MP3 meta tags and threw it in an Amazon S3 folder.

It’s ten tracks of pure Muppety Christmas Joy™, and you can download it at the snazzy link below. This is probably not very legal, but seeing as how Disney will probably never be able to release this amazing special again due to the rights of certain songs and the inclusion of the Fraggles and Sesame Street characters, I think I’m doing a public service.

Here’s the full track list:

  1. We Need A Little Christmas
  2. Jingle Bells/Jingle Bell Rock
  3. Sleigh Ride
  4. Santa Claus is Coming To Town
  5. Sesame Street Melody (Here We Come A-Caroling/Deck The Halls)
  6. The Christmas Song
  7. Home for The Holidays
  8. Pass it On
  9. Christmas Carol Sing
  10. We Wish You A Merry Christmas

The Christmas Carol Sing is an epic, seven-and-a-half minute medley of songs, and I thought it was better to leave it that way than to try and separate each bit. When you’re in your car about to die from boredom while you’re stuck in traffic, I think you will too.

Sleigh Ride, one of the songs not in the DVD release, opens with my favorite line of the whole special from Rowlf the Dog. For some reason I just love the way that line is delivered.

So, download the album and share it as much as you’d like, because it’s all you’re getting from me for Christmas!

Job well done on the sound quality! Several years back, I found an mp3 of
“Jingle Bells/Jingle Bell Rock” that did not have the dialog in it (and ended with Animal saying, “Thank you,” which was not on the broadcast special). I don’t know if this was part of a special release, or if some sort of soundtrack was created for this special or what the deal is, but I thought it was kind of interesting.

    • Thanks! And yeah there are a few different edits floating around, but I think the one I have doesn’t have a lot edited out.

this is awesome! thanks so much! (it’s my favorite Christmas special, too!)

jingle bell rock did not download, all the other songs did

  • Hi

Sorry to comment on such an old post but this didn’t have the song/dialoge bit that is in the special “Twas The Night Before Christmas” AKA The Christmas Play

  • Micheal

    Thank you so much.

Jingle Bell Rock needs to be relabeled. It will come out, in a separate folder.

Thanks for doing this. By far the best CHristmas special. About those missing scenes from the DVD – I actually digitized my old VHS copy and spliced them back in. It’s awesome to see people so dedicated to this lesser known classic!

Just track down the UK version (it is the same version as the broadcast special) and have it reformatted to play on US players. Rights in UK are different than US and those lucky bastards across the pond get the original version.

This is AWESOME! Just what I was looking for to complete my Christmas playlist, thank you! I hope Santa brings you everything you ask for 😉

The gift that keeps on giving – thank you!!!

I am planning to share this special with my son this year and got to thinking about the soundtrack and wondering if it was ever released. Not only did you answer that question but you anticipated and took care of my next one about an “unofficial” release.

You’ve just made my Christmas significantly more merry. Thank you.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! This is my favorite Christmas movie!
