Watch This: The 1944 Captain America Serial

Posted 9 years ago by Movies

I thoroughly enjoyed the new Captain America movie. In fact, I think it’s safe to say that I loved it. Since seeing it I’ve been absorbing the character in as many ways as I can, through cartoons, the movie from the 90s, and now the 1944 serial. The story hardly has anything to do with the Captain America you know and love, but it’s an interesting piece of geek history.

Make sure to stick around until the 4:40 mark or so to hear a scientist say “How did you find out about my vibrator?”

A ‘Star Wars’ Blu-ray Edit So Ridiculous You’d Think it Came from George Lucas

Posted 9 years ago by Movies

I haven’t posted anything on the aggravating edits George Lucas is unleashing on us in a couple weeks with the Star Wars Blu-ray sets because it really pisses me off (see last week’s podcast), but I’ll gladly post this hilarious video featuring Chuck Norris taking out a Scout Trooper.

If they decided to add stuff like this in the movies instead of unnecessary ‘NOOOOOOOO!’ hissy fits I might actually be buying these Blu-rays.

Ernest Goes to Blu-ray

Chalk this up as something that only I would get excited about, but while browsing Amazon last night I made a shocking discover. Ernest movies on Blu-ray! I was a huge Ernest P. Worrell fan growing up, and Ernest Scared Stupid is one of my favorite movies to watch around Halloween (see previous article), so getting in in HD for $5.99 sounds good to me.

It looks like they’ve released Ernest Goes to Camp and Ernest Goes to Jail separately for the same price, or together for around $9. No sign of Ernest Saves Christmas (review) sadly, but I think I’ll live.

These are the kind of things I get excited about. Obviously I have problems.

New Images from Wreck-it-Ralph

If you listened to the second episode of Bubble Pipe Theater, you know we were geeking out about Disney’s 2012 animated movie Wreck-it-Ralph. It’s an animated movie set in the world of multiple video games and will include some real-life video game characters, so you can imagine why we’re excited.

Over at Jim Hill Media, they’ve got some images and new details from Disney’s presentation at D23. One tidbit I was happy to read involves how the look of the film will vary depending on which game the title character is in:

” ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ will actually have a number of different art directions. As our title character moves from his original 8-bit game to a more modern shooter game, you’ll see the art direction of this movie change. Likewise when Wreck-It Ralph moves to the world of an elaborate kart racing game, you’ll see the art direction of this movie change yet again,” Moore explained.

Head over to JHM to read the rest, and let us know what video game characters you hope they include in the movie.

Hold on to Your Butts! ‘Jurassic Park’ Coming Back to Theaters on September 23

Posted 9 years ago by Movies

Ok guys, I’m going to say it. Jurassic Park is my favorite movie. Ever. I always have a tough time finalizing any kind of a top five or top ten list, but I’m always confident that Spielberg’s dinosaur extravaganza is the movie that makes me most happy. I’m already super excited that Jurassic Park on Blu-ray is finally a reality this year, but now I’m even more giddy.

The chance to see my favorite movie on the big screen again has me so excited I can’t stand it. I will be there and I’m going to drag as many Top Hat Sasquatch team members along with me as I can, you can count on that.

Also, I’m super excited that this will give me an excuse to have a Jurassic Park themed episode of Bubble Pipe Theater soon.
