5 Actors That Shouldn’t Play Daredevil

Daredevil

Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

I had a draft ready to publish today about Marvel working out a deal with Fox to get the rights to Galactus and Silver Surfer back from Fox, but my slowness paid off, because that turned out to be false. Fox is gearing up to reboot Fantastic Four, and it sounds like they want to hold on to those characters for that franchise, which makes sense. They don’t sound particularly thrilled about making the gritty, Frank Miller-esque Daredevil reboot that has been in the works for a while though, and might actually let the rights to that character revert back to Marvel.

This is cool for many reasons, the most obvious being Marvel could actually do this right. I don’t know how Daredevil would fit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but at least he would get a good director and cast. I was going to offer my suggestions on who should play Daredevil in the reboot, but as it turns out, I don’t keep up to speed on young, beefy actors and probably don’t know half the people who will be in the running for the character.

What I can do though is give you five actors that should definitely not play Daredevil in the upcoming reboot.

Cool Stuff: Jurassic Park Wallpaper by Dave Delisle

Jurassic Park Wallpaper

Jurassic Park is usually the movie I tell people is my favorite when I have to pick one. I’ve watched it a bzillion times and I love everything about it, and I’m almost 100% sure that opinion isn’t totally based on nostalgia. I just love that freaking movie. I also love this wallpaper that was posted over at Dave’s Geeky Ideas featuring one of the low-tech computer interfaces from the film.

The computer interfaces might be the most dated part of Jurassic Park, but they’re classic. Who can forget Samuel Jackson staring at the huge CRT monitor as the electric fences start failing, or the touch screens in the Ford Explorers, or Dennis Nedry’s screensavers? Ok, I need to go watch Jurassic Park again.

Hold on to your butts and download the wallpaper at Dave’s website.

Instagram Roundup: Skottie Young’s ParaNorman Special Delivery

Posted 8 years ago by Comics, Movies

After many years removed, I am finally journeying back into the world of comic books. I’m just now discovering the amazing talents of artist Skottie Young. He has to be one of the best fantasy illustrators working today. His work on the Oz series is nothing short of spectacular.

Of course I follow this talented guy on Instagram (username skottie) where I hope to get glimpses of his new work. That wasn’t exactly what I discovered on the photo-sharing app today but what I did see had me even more enthralled. Young had posted a very interesting series of snapshots. He chronicled the opening of a special shipment he had received from LAIKA, the animators behind the upcoming film ParaNorman.

Just as he has a talent for telling a story through his drawings, Skottie had created an excellent narrative by slowly unveiling the package’s contents through photographs.

10 Things That Look Better Than The Amazing Spider-man’s Lizard

The Lizard

I liked The Amazing Spider-man. I really did. I liked almost everything about it, with one glaring exception: the design of The Lizard. I was so excited when they announced that The Lizard would be the villain in this movie, but when the designs started to leak, I was a little bummed. When I finally saw the movie, I liked the character but the snoutless, generic Lizard design didn’t do much for me. So, to avoid actually working today I’ve been making a list of 10 things that look better than The Lizard.

As with most ‘silly lists’ on Top Hat Sasquatch, this is mainly a joke. Keep that in mind before you rage in the comments section.

Goombas!

The Goombas from the Super Mario Bros Movie

The Goombas from the Super Mario Bros movie were the first things I thought of when I saw The Lizard. Bald, scaly, and a big toothy grin. Exactly what The Lizard could have looked like in a 90s Spider-man movie, had they decided to ditch the snout and make it look ridiculous. I don’t know if a snout would have made The Lizard look that much better, but what is so unrealistic about growing a snout vs. growing a tail?

The League of Extraordinary Bloggers
This post is part of The League of Extraordinary Bloggers, a weekly series of blog posts started by Brian over at Cool and Collected. Make sure to check out his site and join in the conversation if you run a blog!

This week’s challenge over on The League asks:

What movie, TV show, book, etc. turns you into a blubbering baby every time you see it?

If this post was written by my wife, the title would be Anything, Especially if it Involves Animals. For me, it takes a bit more to get the tears flowing. You know, things like Maximus dying at the end of Gladiator or the Iron Giant saying Superman before sacrificing himself to save Hogarth. The movie that takes the cake for me when it comes bringing on the waterworks, though, is Pixar’s Up.
