The Evolution of Controllers Poster

Pop Chart Lab's The Evolution of Controllers

Video games have changed quite a bit over the years. Graphics have gotten from blocky to photo-realistic. The device used to control the on-screen action has changed quite a bit as well. Pop Chart Lab chronicles the game controller advances from 1972 to 2010 in poster form.

The sticks-and-buttons controllers introduced in the ’70s have given way to motion-based devices like the Wii remote and PlayStation Move. Pop Chart Lab’s design is tremendous but I’d like to see at least a nod to the latest evolution—the controller-less Xbox Kinect.

Debut Trailer for Telltale’s ‘Jurassic Park’ Game

Posted 9 years ago by Games

Like ’em or not, Telltale knows how to pick licenses for their games. Homestar Runner, Wallace and Gromit, Back to the Future, and coming in April, Jurassic Park. I’ve played about every video game based on my favorite film, hoping one would do the franchise justice. None of them really captured the cinematic style of the original movie, and I think thats why they all kind of sucked.

Telltale looks like they have it figure out, I just hope the gameplay is awesome . They get bonus points for incorporating the Barbasol can that Dennis Nedry drops after becoming Dilophosaurus food. The 8 year-old version of me always knew that would end up in a sequel.

Arrested. Development. Clue.

Posted 9 years ago by Games

This is quite possibly the greatest thing mankind has ever produced.

The Sistine Chapel? Bah.

The internet, a worldwide network of computers that allow everyday people to share and consume an unlimited amount of knowledge, experiences, and wonder? Meh.

The geniuses at pleated-jeans.com have mocked up a board game, some cards, and a box that gives us a glimpse at the awesomeness that could be an Arrested Development version of the classic game Clue.

Can you even imagine being able to say “It was Lucille with the Cornballer in the Banana Stand”? Seriously. Say it out loud. Feel how it rolls off your lips. Feels good, doesn’t it?

Video Games in Extra-Hard Mode

Posted 9 years ago by Games

Lots of video games have a “God mode” where you have infinite lives and the game is a breeze to complete. What about the opposite? What if all the classic games had an extra, super-hard mode? That’s what this video from animator Volker Thimm asks. The results are pretty hilarious. The new twist on Frogger has to be my favorite.

Top 5 360 and PS3 Games of 2010

Posted 9 years ago by Games

This was an amazing year to have either an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, the reason for combining these two top 5 lists was because so many of the games that came out were available for both systems simultaneously. For judging this list: Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 games were judged based on their exclusivity at the time of the release, any game released on both the 360 and PS3 are judged in a separate list: “the top 5 multi-console releases” which are judged at the bottom of this post.
