The Most Interesting Boba Fett Rumor You’ll Hear Today

Boba Fett

One of the worst offenses of the Star Wars prequels to me was taking the mysterious, badass character of Boba Fett and turning him into a whiny little clone. I dont’ want to know what Boba Fett was like as a kid, and frankly I don’t even need to know what he looks like under the helmet. That’s why everyone loved the character. He was a notorious ass-kicker who even commanded a little respect from Darth Vader.

Well, it seems like Lawrence Kasdan (co-writer of Empire and Return of the Jedi) has a great idea for retconning Boba Fett so that he can be a badass again in his rumored spin-off movie. Latino Review has the scoop, and really hope it’s true:

To counter-act the prequels, the Boba Fett spin-off movie planned for 2018 has an interesting twist pitched by Episode VII writer Lawrence Kasdan: the spin-off will start with a complete stranger killing Boba Fett and taking his armor, starting a Man-With-No-Name bounty hunter tale. So: someone kills the Boba Fett from the prequels and takes his armor and name. One this is for certain is that Kasdan didn’t like the prequel and wants no Bobba Fett Clone in the spin-off film.

This could make for such a fun movie. I am all for Disney retconning anything from the prequels they can. What do you guys think?

Also, why is the Boba Fett Black Series figure $45 on Amazon? I was going to order one after getting pumped about this news but yikes.

  • Yes, yes, YES, yes, and, um, yes.

  • The only concern this idea brings up is how the movie would be framed. By showcasing something that happened post prequels and pre-original trilogy, it would make for a weird opening. I’m assuming the stand alone film would take place post original trilogy (because I think it’s just as important to re-establish the bad-ass-ness of the character to also address him escaping the Sarlac pit)? Either way, PLEASE ditch the prequel stink that’s on the character.

    • Yeah I was wondering about that too. I assumed it would be post-prequels but before the OT, to show his origin as a badass or something.

there’s a book that mentions boba fett getting out of the sarlac using a thermal grenade, his armor keeping him alive and not being dissolved by the sarlac. sarlac dies. boba wins. everyone is happy. that would be a story i would watch.

I believe it was a tales of book….either tales from jabba’s palace or one from that series and yes you are right fett did escape the sarlacc…using a micro grenade launcher….he was burnt by jet fuel and digestive acid which may have also affected his genes, the tonnes of sand coming down from the blast hole broke his arm and despite all of that he kept on blasting and digging till he reached the surface….where he was found by dengar….

Boba Fett’s an outlaw, a man with a name and no face. It doesn’t matter who’s underneath as long as the action speaks louder than his reputation. I’m for one extremely excited about this concept. Mostly because its the perfect set up for a Sci-Fi/Western Story epic. Which is the way I always identified the character to be, a gunslinger for hire. A man that could easily have been a center character in a Clint Eastwood or John Wayne western in a separate universe. Id personally love to see the rise of the reputation and the hardening of the man type of story. How does the legend cope with the bodies that are left in his wake, and above that how does he cope with the fact that it is the only thing he is good at, and that this is the ONLY thing he will EVER be good at.

On a last Note , now this is just me but a “Unforgiven” esque approach would be pretty awesome here. It will also add some more likability to the character as well to shape the man into the cold hearted legend that we have all grown up to love.

This sounds a lot like the story in the Expanded Universe of a man named Jaster Mereel killing him and taking on his identity. I am all for it, especially if they do it similar to the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy where Dengar rescues him from Tatooine after escaping the Sarlaac and flashbacks to past events.

Hopefully this means they can restore Fett’s voice in Empire Strikes Back to Jeremy Bullock’s again…

    • Yeah I hope they restore the original voice too. And I hope we see some of the other Bounty Hunters like Dengar pop up in the spin-off movie.

Saw that movie. Although I thought it was the Dread Pirate Roberts.

  • Ed

None of this changes the fact that Boba Fett died in a giant butthole in the desert.

    • Or did he. That burp sounded suspiciously unsatisfying… :p

  • Ming

    He’s good to me dead… 😉

  • Dex

I can’t imagine they’d go back and change his voice in ESB again, which I thought was needless anyway. Just because you’re brought up around an accent doesn’t mean you’ll sound like your dad when your an adult even if you’re his clone.
But yeah, I’d rather have a movie where we don’t find anything out about the man and just see him kick some ass.

Bah, whatever feels like the rumor we hear are getting more and more sensational as time goes by. There was the retcon rumor of changing Fett’s identity again so it isn’t a clone of Jango. Why cast Morrisson then? We don’t even have confirmation on the first spinoff’s character other than the repeated parrotting of the same rumors. It very well could be Han Solo. And Lucas’ original treatments for Episodes 10,11, and 12 back in the early 80s were in infact placeholders for spinoffs based on droids and wookies. The entire film would be just droids beeping or Wookies interacting on screen in their native language on their home planet I assume with the eventual side adventures. So take some time and digest. A Boba Fett adventure, part of which we saw in Episode II through Jango or the Holiday Special and Chewie’s family! haha
